Storyline

Jean and Shag Williams locate a newly built house and decide it's perfect for them to buy. One thing the developers forgot to tell them about was that it is built on a graveyard. Within days toilets start to flush by themselves and the garage door moves up and down by it's own accord. Will Jean and Shag realise that the place may be haunted by ghosts before it's too late. 'Poltergeist' it's not, but you could find worse
8 June 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

If you watched a lot of TV in the late 80s and early 90s then you probably saw a lot of programming related to the supernatural. Shows like 'Unsolved Mysteries' had segments about haunted houses in suburbia. These often were pretty creepy, even to this skeptic. There were also Movies of the Week that took advantage of this, most alleged to be based on true accounts. 'The Amityville Horror' was the first film about a real life ghost story, but wouldn't be the last. There was 'The Haunted' in 1991 and then a year later came this film, itself based on a book. Certainly not the best of it's kind, but if you like these kind of movies you might get some enjoyment out of it.

Pros: Performances are all good. Fast paced. Decent score that gets the job done. Some creepy moments. Goes more for the chills rather than relying on elaborate effects. Has that element of realism 'Poltergeist' has.

Cons: Uses about every cliché in the book. Pretty predictable. Nothing happens you haven't already seen before.

Final thoughts: When watching this film it's hard not to compare it to similar films that were more successful. On it's own it's a competently made and acted time waster. Won't knock your socks off, but not the worst way to kill some time either.

My rating: 2.5/5
