You know, I don't know why this film is getting more negative reviews
from critics. thought it was a pretty good film, sure it was just like
any other mobster movie you'd see, but I liked this one.
Now apparently, in France this is the second part of the "Le Grand Pardon" series, but was only released as a singular movie in America. I wonder what Le Grand Pardon 1 was like, if it was released under some name in America, do tell me cause i'll be interested in it.
You had some good kills in this movie, like a guy falling out of a helicopter & like 10,000 guys getting shot LOL. Had some animal kills in it too, we see three dead, bloodend dogs, with a pool filed with they're blood.
The famous American actors you might know in this are Christopher Walken, Jennifer Beals, & Jill Clayburgh. It also has Nick Savage, who played a gang banger in both Friday the 13th Part III & Fright Night. He plays Joseph, the character Roland's assistant.
This "Day of Atonement" was only released to VHS & Laserdisc here in the US. Not to DVD or Blu-ray. I'd recommend it though, I thought it was a pretty good movie. Kind of slow at some points but that aside, I liked Day of Atonement. (Le Grand Pardon 2)

Pretty bad stuff, 6 August 2001

I gather that director Alexandre Arcady must think he's a cross between Francis Ford Coppola and John Woo.Unfortunately he has neither their cinematic flair or story-telling ability, and the end result is an unintentional laugh riot which after awhile just isn't that funny anymore. The Dragnet-style opening narration,Jill Clayburgh's painful over-the-top performance and the almost constant score running in the background, make watching this film to the end real torture.Christopher Walken is the only one in the cast that has any kind of character life going on,but you can tell he was probably pretty fed up with this gig.

Obviously . . . A Foreign (Non-USA) Film, 1 June 2003
Author: BILLIII (firstname.lastname@example.org) from Bewyn, PA. USA
What can I say about this film? As an action film it took the
route of having a little bit of everything (suspense, surprise
pathos, good appropriate music, beautiful scenery, boats,
helicopters, good guys, bad guys, a plot, a moral(s) very
recapped at the ending; . . .
and YET TO ME it came off as an American B++ soap opera; the actors were too studied, too stiff. The plot held together, but was simple. The photography and decor was splendid.
I ENJOYED this movie, and might even play it over. I was ENTERTAINING in a mindless way, and that's OK. Sometimes I just want to watch an action movie without dissecting it, and this movie couldn't be dissected.
I probably should have rated it a 7, but emotionally I want to give it an 8. Now for a REAL action movie, I am going to put on one of Clint Eastwood's films.
