Storyline

Genoan navigator Christopher Columbus has a dream to find an alternative route to sail to the Indies, by traveling west instead of east, across the unchartered Ocean sea. After failing to find backing from the Portugese, he goes to the Spanish court to ask Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand for help. After surviving a grilling from the Head of the Spanish Inquisition Tomas de Torquemada, he eventually gets the blessing from Queen Isabella and sets sail in three ships to travel into the unknown. Along the way he must deal with sabotage from Portugese spies and mutiny from a rebellious crew. Written by measham

Two hours of little interest
14 May 2014 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

Late fifteenth century. The Genoese navigator Cristóbal Colon has a dream to find an alternative route to the Indies traveling westward, which involves crossing the Atlantic Ocean. His project rejected by the Portuguese crown goes to Spain to seek support for the Catholic Monarchs. Thanks to Queen Elizabeth gets three boats we begin a journey into the unknown The film has a great cast of actors: Marlon Brando, Catherine Zeta- Jones , Benicio Del Toro, Tom Selleck , George Corraface ... for a film of poor quality. All is joy and good intentions the first half hour of the film. But it soon finds that everything is an appearance. Their quality places "1492: Conquest of Paradise" (another film also made for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America ) as an overproduction .

Especially unfortunate and unrealistic is the scene of the arrival in El Salvador, with indigenous more typical of a gymnasium of a Caribbean indigenous tribes. At least give some hints of reality, and stranding of the caravel Santa Maria , which motivated construction, with its remains, the "Fuerte Navidad" (although the fight scene that precedes the launch of Columbus, culminating in its destruction is painful ... ) In conclusion a film of almost 2 hours long, not interest, it was a box office bomb. It also helped that, despite being a historical film, like other attempts were made on the Discovery provoked little interest in European and American public and only served to increase the mediocrity of the film ...
