For as many epic fight scenes as "The Avengers" has, it has even more pop-culture Easter eggs sprinkled throughout. Thanks in large part to the combined efforts of writer/director Joss Whedon and snark master Robert Downey Jr., "The Avengers" is chock-full of witty pop-culture references worth dissecting and analyzing. So we did our best to catalog each and every nod, wink and jab featured in Marvel's ultimate crossover movie.

Here is your pop-culture cheat sheet for "Marvel's The Avengers."

AC/DC: The Australian rock group known for hits such as "Back in Black" and "Highway to Hell" appeared on the soundtracks for both "Iron Man" films and "The Avengers."

From the archive, 1 May 1992: Stephen Hawking reviews film of his best selling book

Author of A Brief History of Time hopes his theories reach a wider audience

I first saw the complete version in Los Angeles in February. I must confess, I was quite apprehensive as to how it would turn out. I was afraid that, on the one hand, it might leave out or trivialise the science, and on the other, that people might be confused or bored. I hope the finished product avoids both dangers.

Of course, the film does not explain the science in the detail the book did. That was inevitable. But I think it gets across two of the key ideas in my book: first, that the universe had a beginning in time. And second, that there is another kind of time, called imaginary time, in which the universe need have no boundary, no beginning or end.

The discovery of ripples in the microwave background reported last week is consistent with this idea, »

The Big Bang Theory: Stephen Hawking to Guest Star

The Big Bang Theory: Stephen Hawking to Guest Star

The Big Bang Theory’s roster of outstanding guest stars is about to be turned upside down.  It’s true: Stephen Hawking, world-renowned physicist and cosmologist, is joining the cast for a special appearance on April 5, 2012.  For a show that has managed to acquire top-notch talent in the past (note: Wil Wheaton, Christine Baranski, Laurie Metcalf and LeVar Burton, to name a few), securing Hawking is the icing on the cake.  “When people would ask us who a ‘dream guest star’ for the show would be, we would always joke and say Stephen Hawking – knowing that was a long shot of astronomical proportions” notes The Big Bang Theory’s Executive Producer, Bill Prady.  “In fact, we’re not exactly sure how we got him.  It’s the kind of mystery that could only be understood by, say, Stephen Hawking.”

Hawking Lands the The Big Bang Theory

13 March 2012 11:07 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

The king of all theoretical physicists is coming to the set of The Big Bang Theory. Stephen Hawking is a hero the Jim Parsons character, the quirky Sheldon Cooper, much like Leonard Nimoy, who is also finally coming to the hit comedy. It is definitely Shelly’s lucky year!

TV Line had the news about Hawking’s upcoming, confirmed guest appearance. Details are being kept pretty hush hush, and no one can cast blame there. The April 5 show may be fairly epic.

As for the world’ most famous Vulcan actor, Mr. Nimoy is set to appear in the March 29th episode. Did I say appear? I should say he’ll be heard, not seen. It is his voice that will make it’s Big Bang Theory debut when Spock speaks to Sheldon in a dream. One can only imagine how Shelly will react.

Nabbing Hawking is quite an accomplishment for CBS. »

A geek dream finally fulfilled!

Sheldon (Jim Parsons) will finally meet his hero, Stephen Hawking, in an upcoming episode of The Big Bang Theory. The CBS show is keeping details of Hawking’s appearance under wraps but EW did find out that the author of A Brief History of Time will appear in a scene with Parsons on April 5.

Hawking’s cameo will air the week after Leonard Nimoy finally shows up on the comedy. Nimoy, in fact, Tweeted @TheRealNimoy earlier today: “Spock on Big Bang Theory on 3/29. Stephen Hawking the following week. Logical.”

What is the best last line of a novel?

"'Ok baby, hold tight,' said Zaphod, 'we'll take a quick bite at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.'" – Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy; or "One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, 'Poo-tee-weet?'" – Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-5.

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was which" – George Orwell, Animal Farm.

The best last line of a novel does not have to be the one that brings some great classic work of fiction to a satisfactory close, but perhaps one that remains forever in the mind simply because the words seem impossible of improvement. I offer three »

Getty British scientist Stephen Hawking gives a lecture on October 25, 2011.

University of Cambridge physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking has probed the secrets of time and space, but there’s one thing that continues to puzzle him: the opposite sex. “Women. They are a complete mystery,” Hawking said in an interview with New Scientist. Apparently, the genius behind the bestseller “A Brief History of Time” doesn’t quite have the ladies figured out despite two marriages. Ahead of a symposium to »
