This year's Golden Globes had some surprises and let-downs for everyone, but one of the stranger picks (in my opinion, anyway) was a nod for the Avatar theme by Leona Lewis, "I See You." Like it or not, this pop confection has become quite the ear worm and even has worn some fans of the film down to the point where they like it. (Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome?)
Coincidentally, James Cameron's Titanic also served up a seriously damaging, and perhaps more potent, ear worm in the form of Céline Dion's Oscar-winning song "My Heart Will Go On," written by James Horner and Will Jennings. Like it or not, Dion's soaring vocals stuck with you long after leaving the theater, probably because it was being played everywhere.

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.
“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

Long-time reader of Shadow And Act, Mr Accidental Visitor (Av) penned the below piece, which he sent to me, and asked if I’d post it. You know how we love to inspire dialogue on this site; I’m hoping this post will do just that.
Here ya go… Read on… and certainly share your thoughts with Av in the comments section below:
Allison Samuel’s Guide to Finding a Good, Non-Black Man
By Accidental Visitor
Most of us have our share of inner demons. But few of us have the opportunity to put them out there on full display for the masses as Allison Samuels has. Not that that’s necessarily a good thing. Lately around these parts there have been ongoing comments regarding the sanity of film critic Armond White. But I wonder if Ms Samuels hasn’t earned a rightful place alongside him in the bat-crazy Hall of Fame. »

It isn’t necessarily great news for an actor to hear that the television series they’ve been starring in is going to be “retooled” in its second season. Your character can be retooled right out the door. Or, it can develop significantly. The latter has fortunately been the case for actor Ross McCall, who has been playing Kenny Battalgia on “Crash” for both of its two seasons. Earlier in the year, veteran producer and writer Ira Steven Behr (“Deep Space Nine”) was brought on as the new show runner, and he merged Kenny’s storyline with that of billionaire Seth Blanchard, the billionaire played by Eric Roberts in the new season, and the major plot focus. Blanchard has a spiritual reawakening which causes him to forgo the building of a new L. »

There was much hullabaloo with the rumors that Whitney Houston, he Whitney Houston, is set to visit Wisteria Lane with a recurring role on Desperate Housewives. It was reported that the come-backing diva was in negotiations with ABC people for a recurring role.
Reps for Desperate Housewives had denied these rumors and said no such thing is happening. Houston, who recently made a splash with her Oprah interview and new album, is of course no stranger to acting. Other than The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, and The Preacher's Wife, she had made a cameo appearance as herself on Boston Public in 2003.
Whitney Houston has admitted that she and her ex-husband Bobby Brown used to freebase cocaine in marijuana joints. Speaking on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the singer again denied smoking crack cocaine with a pipe. Houston said: "Before The Bodyguard it was very light. After The Bodyguard it started getting heavy. Cocaine. Marijuana. We were lacing our marijuana with base. We would buy a kilo. "We were not doing pipe smoking. You roll it up and you smoke it in your weed. It's almost like heroin-cocaine speedballs but you level it off with marijuana, okay?" (more) »

Jealousy and emotional abuse derailed Whitney Houston's once-happy marriage to Bobby Brown, the R&B diva revealed during an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey. Telling the talk show host about her post-Bodyguard career highs, Houston says her then-husband couldn't handle her success. "I think somewhere inside, something happens to a man when a woman has that much control or has that much fame," the singer said during her much-hyped appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show that aired Monday. (Part two of the interview will air on Tuesday). Asked if Brown was jealous of her, Houston, 46, told Winfrey, "he's not going to like this, »

Oprah Winfrey has claimed that Whitney Houston intentionally played herself down to "fit" her failed marriage to Bobby Brown. In a trailer for a two-part interview with Houston, Winfrey suggested that other women will understand the singer's actions, Music-News reports. Winfrey said: "She talks about when it started to go wrong and it started to go wrong after The Bodyguard, that was a long time ago. "The thing that is the most shocking to me is that Whitney Houston tried (more) »

After seven years in the wilderness and a messy divorce from fellow musician Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston will return this summer with her long-awaited sixth album I Look To You. Aussie actor Jackman was expected to play a New York police detective hired to guard a spoiled teen heiress - played by Cyrus - after she receives a kidnap threat.

A spokesperson for the actor says the reports are "totally false". »
When people say they worship at the altar of their favorite famous hottie, they typically don't mean literally. Not so for Shia Labeouf. Fans of the Transformers star have created the Church of Shiantology, complete with the star's face superimposed on iconic religious works of art. And nothing is sacred. The Disturbia actor disturbingly stands on the mountaintop, gets cradled by (a Shia-faced) Madonna and appears repeatedly on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Oh, and apparently he took over for both Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. (Yeah, we're not really sure why this image landed on the holy site either). And here we thought the Robert Pattinson fans were »
The Box Office success of the Transformers franchise is paving the way for another attempt at a live-action Voltron movie.
Atlas Entertainment has acquired the film rights from owners World Events Productions, according to Risky Biz. Previously, Fox production company New Regency and then Relativity Media had each been interested in the project.
Voltron was a Japanese animated TV series that aired from 1984-1985, showing the exploits of five pilot-controlled robot lions that can combine into the massive, sword-wielding title character to fend off alien invaders.
A second series was made in the 90s and there have also been toys and comic books.
World Events' Ted Koplar said: "Unlike other robotic action movies, Voltron is the personification of the human spirit, a quality »

The NY Daily News is reporting that battered pop star Rihanna visited New York over the weekend to discuss roles in "The Bodyguard" remake and the third "Charlie's Angels" film. In "The Bodyguard," Rihanna would be taking the role of Whitney Houston, while Channing Tatum (GI Joe) is currently rumored to take over for Kevin Costner. The new film is said to be a "young and sexy take." "Before the situation with Chris, Ri was getting a lot of scripts. She's been wanting to do movies for a while now," said the paper's insider. One other project she is considering is a film with Justin Timberlake, with whom she released her hit single "Rehab." »
I'm not much of one for the celebrity gossip columns. Even though we have a Celebrity section, I tend to avoid it like the plague. So it took another site reporting on something from WENN (specifically Filmstalker) for me to catch that there's talk about a remake of the Kevin Costner / Whitney Houston romance The Bodyguard My first thought was that The Bodyguard hasn't been around long enough for a remake, but the truth is it has been - we've certainly gotten other movies rebooted and remade in less time. Appropriately, the vague source says musical artist Rihanna is in talks to play the Whitney Houston role. Hmmm, both the original and the remake starring an African American musician turned actress who happens to be in a potentially abusive relationship? A little too similar if you ask me. I guess the parallel is too easy a mark, although the indication »
Granted, 1992’s “The Bodyguard” was not the best movie ever made, but it was still good and I still liked it, so what of it? Late last year Kevin Costner made noise about a possible sequel to his hit film. The idea, said Costner, would be to bring back his bodyguard character Frank Farmer, minus the singing diva. But what if Frank Farmer did come back but Costner didn’t, and instead you got Duke from “G.I. Joe” and “Step it Up” in his place and Rihanna filling in for Whitney Houston? That’s the rumor from the NYDailyNews: Rihanna may get a bodygaurd - on the big screen. The battered pop star made an impromptu trip to the Big Apple over the weekend to have some meetings about impending projects: one of which is a proposed remake of 1992’s Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner flick, “The Bodyguard.” Rihanna would »
I generally hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm slowly trying to accept that it's a part of this whole blogging gig. So, are you sitting down? Alright... well, I'm sorry to say that the best rumour of the week has already been shot down: Rihanna will not be starring in a remake of The Bodyguard. Over the weekend, the New York Daily News had reported that Rihanna was spotted in New York where she was taking meetings about some scripts she had recently been offered. One of them was supposedly a remake of the 1992 Whitney Houston / Kevin Costner flick, with Channing Tatum in the running for the role of "The Bodyguard". Unfortunately, the whole thing »
