Bryan Singer reveals that Stan Lee will cameo in X-Men pilot Gifted

28 April 2017 3:54 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

As filming continues on Fox and Marvel’s X-Men series Gifted, director Bryan Singer has taken to Instagram to reveal that Stan Lee will be making his customary cameo appearance in the pilot episode of the show, with Singer sharing the following image:

Gifted will mark the third time that Singer has directed Stan Lee after the original X-Men in 2000 and last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

The series follows two ordinary parents who are forced to go on the run after discovering their children possess the X-gene, and find themselves linking up with an underground group of mutants fighting for freedom from persecution.

Matt Nix (Burn Notice) is serving as showrunner on Gifted, with X-Men veteran Bryan Singer directing the pilot episode. Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and Amy Acker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) are set to play the leads, Reed and Kate Stewart, while the rest of the cast includes Natalie Alyn Lind »

Stan Lee To Cameo In Bryan Singer’s X-Men TV Series The Gifted

28 April 2017 11:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Stan Lee has popped up in various Marvel adaptations as everything from an oblivious librarian, a Hugh Hefner look-alike, and a security guard who ‘loses’ Captain America’s WWII costume. The 94-year-old comics icon has become a talisman to Marvel’s cross-studio comic book films, his cameos acting as a respectful nod to the mind that birthed a multibillion dollar superhero empire.

So it’s got to be a good omen then that Bryan Singer has posted an Instagram picture (seen below) of Lee shooting his cameo for the upcoming X-Men TV series, titled The Gifted. Compared to Marvel’s recent foray into surreal Lynchian art-tv in the excellent Legion, this looks to be a more familiar take on the X-Men mythos. For those unaware, the show revolves around two ordinary parents, played by Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker, who discover that their children are ‘gifted’ with the X gene. »

We Are Groot (But Also Howard The Duck)

26 April 2017 10:17 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As we look back at what came before ‘Iron Man,’ we marvel at the miracle that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Earlier this week, the Fsr team brainstormed the plot of Avengers 4 based on the idea that its mysterious subtitle was a potential spoiler for the still unseen Avengers: Infinity War. It was a fun exercise that briefly allowed me to nerd out over a few spandex epics penned by personal favorites, Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman. The resulting conversation spawned some excitement, and a good heap of cynicism as well…or better yet, apathy. How much further can the Marvel Cinematic Universe expand? Will Thanos ever sit up from his chair, and prove he’s the big bad Mad Titan comic book fanboys claim him to be? Next week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will mark the 15th entry in Marvel’s unprecedented shared universe machine, and by the time we get to Avengers »

Catching Up with the Classics: ‘Maus’

25 April 2017 4:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Welcome to another new blog series I am starting with the focus on graphic novels and comics. I have long been a comic fan. Growing up in the 90’s most of my Saturday mornings were spent watching X-Men, Batman, and Spider-Man cartoons. Although I have been a fan of comic book properties for some time I have begun to realize I have yet to read some of the most infamous comics and graphic novels.

I tended to stick to what I liked, which was Marvel specially X-Men and X-Force. When the cartoons stopped and high school began my comic book reading pretty much died. It did not help that I grew up in rural Pennsylvania with no local comic book sore. After high school I slowly began my way back into comics due to a local comic store finally opening up and my friends getting back into them as well. »

The X-Men Franchise is Doing ‘Dark Phoenix’ in November 2018

24 April 2017 12:56 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Sophie Turner is what was, what is, what will be in the ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ sequel.X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Over the weekend 20th Century Fox announced a slew of 2018 release dates: New Mutants on April 13, Deadpool 2 on June 1, and Dark Phoenix on November 2. Saturday cartoons and movie news. Wasn’t the weekend grand? Let’s fight the urge to speculate wildly about Deadpool 2 and instead speculate wildly about the X-Men: Apocalypse sequel, Dark Phoenix.

Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) will reprise her role as Jean Grey which makes sense given that X-Men: Apocalypse showed off her Phoenix-y powers to defeat the big baddie. The interesting, potentially bad thing about this is that the current X-Men: Apocalypse continuity envisions The Phoenix Force as being an already existing part of Jean. There is a bittersweet quality to this because it is both interesting and worrisome.

The interesting aspect is that Turner has a great acting opportunity. We »

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Shares His Interpretation Of Josh Brolin As Cable

18 April 2017 6:13 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After an extensive search that involved many Hollywood heavy hitters, Deadpool 2 finally found its Cable in the form of Avengers: Infinity War star Josh Brolin. However, with the film still not even in front of cameras yet, it’s going to be a while before we get any sort of official reveal of the actor suited up as the fan-favourite mutant, but in the meantime, there’s been plenty of awesome fan-art doing the rounds. One piece in particular though may top everything we’ve seen thus far.

Deadpool and Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld has shared his own interpretation of what Brolin might look like in the role, and if this drawing is anything to go by, it’s fair to say that the actor really suits the character – visually speaking, at least. It’s hard not to wonder if Liefeld is basing this off something he’s seen »

Joe Corallo: The New X-Men Blues

18 April 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Last week I wrote an open letter to Marvel about what the X-Men mean to me, primarily as a reaction to X-Men Gold #1. If you missed it, you can read it here. Since then, X-Men Blue #1 has come out. I read it, so now you get to read me talking about it.

Although I’ll be avoiding the biggest spoilers, if you are looking to avoid any and all spoilers for this comic I suggest you go give it a read before you continue.

Oh, you already read it and can keep going? That’s great!

X-Men Blue #1 is written by Cullen Bunn, drawn by Jorge Molina and Matteo Buffagni, colored by Matt Milla and lettered by Joe Caramagna. Cullen Bunn is someone I’ve been a fan of for a while now; it’s really hard not to enjoy Bunn’s writing. I’m really looking forward to reading his, »

Had this been a meme circulating on social media – and, thankfully, it isn’t – this would be about the time we’d say, “if you remember this, your childhood was awesome.” But, in all seriousness, if you were a kid in the 1990’s, you no doubt remember that the X-Men were absolutely huge at that time, despite the fact that they were yet to have any representation on the silver screen.

Lately, Marvel has found a variety of ways to appeal to our nostalgic sides, be it with a trailer featuring the theme song from the classic animated series or some “remastered” Jim Lee variant covers. So, it comes as no surprise that they’ve readied another round of greatness from yesteryear by rolling out X-Men trading card variant covers.

Basically, here’s the idea: This July, »

See Josh Brolin As Cable In New Fan-Art As Rob Liefeld Weighs In On Latest Deadpool 2 Casting Addition

Last night, we were all left shocked by the news that Avengers: Infinity War star Josh Brolin will play Cable in Deadpool 2. A long list of names had been rumoured as being up for the role in recent months, but Brolin came totally out of nowhere, despite the fact that it’s obvious he’s a perfect fit for the time-travelling mutant.

Now, some new fan-art has found its way online which offers up at least a vague idea of what Brolin will look like as Cable. As you can see, the techno-organic virus has ravaged his body and he’s wearing tattered remains of an X-Men costume which bears a striking resemblance to the one worn by his father Cyclops in the comics.

Cable co-creator, Rob Liefeld, weighed in on the latest addition to Deadpool 2 yesterday, and he seems very pleased that Brolin »

Reynolds Responds to Brolin's Cable Casting in Deadpool 2

12 April 2017 4:41 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Today, after months of rumors, shortlists and a bunch of waiting, Fox finally announced who will be playing Cable in Deadpool 2. Surprisingly, it is going to be Josh Brolin, who many Marvel fans know is already playing Thanos in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. That didn't seem to get in the way of the deal getting done, so we now finally know who is going to be alongside Ryan Reynolds for the ride in the highly-anticipated sequel. And now the Deadpool actor has officially responded to the news.

Not long after the official announcement was made public, Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter in order to address the casting of Josh Brolin in a true Wade Wilson fashion. The actor posted a very bizarre photo, featuring Deadpool's glove, a condom with all of the Gold Girl's names on it, a couple of dominos and a cup of »

Joe Corallo: An Open Letter To Marvel Entertainment

11 April 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

To Marvel Entertainment,

Last week I read X-Men Gold #1 and, controversy aside which I won’t be getting into as you have gone above and beyond to address the issue properly and professionally, it really invoked a lot of strong feelings in me. Because of that, I’d like to talk about the X-Men and what they mean to me.

I first discovered X-Men on television when I was in elementary school. I remember watching the first episode and immediately being sucked in. To this day, the Sentinels are still menacing to me and I’ll always have a fondness for Jubilee, Rogue and Storm. I remember the time between Saturday morning after the episode finished to the next Saturday felt like an eternity. I was a shy kid who knew he was queer, but I didn’t understand it. I didn’t have a lot of friends, didn’t »

The sixth season of Homeland ended last night with an absolutely bang-up twisting cliffhanger and a final shot of Carrie staring at the Capitol building, mirroring the opening montage of earlier seasons that ended with Nicholas Brody staring at the White House.

Showtime did not give Homeland much publicity this year; the network instead focused on Billions – which stars Damien Lewis, who played the conflicted, and ultimately very lost, Sgt. Nicholas Brody. But after six years Homeland continues to stay relevant; this season it delivered hard punches to topical issues, »
