Yesterday, we recapped the surprising actors and actresses that made a major impact on TV shows in 2009.
Today, with a new year just around the corner, it's time to relive the specific moments that left a lasting impressions on viewers around the nation and around the dial.
In no specific order, these relatively recent episodic memories will last a lifetime...
The Office Wedding
They courted for years, they surprised us with a pregnancy and then Jim and Pam finally got married this fall. When the staff of Dunder Mifflin danced down the aisle to a Chris Brown single, it was the perfect conclusion to an adorable storyline, seasons in the making.
Heather Locklear Returns
Was it overhyped by The CW? Perhaps, but that's only because Katie Cassidy has done such a fine (hot!) job stepping of into the bitchy shoes left by Amanda Woodward. But now that Locklear has returned,

Toward the end of the year, TV shows that are doing well in rating have started getting the pick-up while those that struggle are given the ax. That way, networks would be able to determine which shows would return in midseason and which new shows should replace the canceled ones. Moreover, winners from reality shows such as "Survivor", "Top Chef" and "The Biggest Loser" begin to reveal themselves.

David Letterman who usually exposed other celebrities' scandal and have them explain on his show chose to do one of his own. He shocked both his team and the audience when he said during his monologue that he is a victim of extortion due to his affair with one of the female staff of the show. He apologized to wife Regina Lasko four days later, telling the audience that Lasko was deeply "hurt" by his affair confession.

People working in the TV world celebrated the arrival of the third quarter of 2009 when the biggest television event, the Emmys, was held in September. Preceded by Creative Emmy Awards, the event was, for some, the eventual payday of their hard work throughout the last year. Also coming into the spotlight is a major change in a very popular show that sent a shock to its fans in the month of August.
July
Deemed as one of the most dramatic endings of "The Bachelorette" season, the Jillian Harris edition resulted in a proposition on July 27. Jillian picked Ed Swiderski out of Kiptyn Locke although Ed was the guy who left the competition in the fifth week to pursue his career. Ed in return, presented her with and ring and said, "I want to be with you forever. I want a family with you." The couple moved in together around two months after the finale.

Struck by recession, the TV world ceased to inflate a full-blown season in 2009. In order to keep the budget slim, many shows reluctantly reduced the number of star appearances and the networks were forced to carefully select those which will gain them profit and ratings. This led to many actor exits as well as mediocre show cancellations. AceShowbiz is taking its readers for a time travel to the year that was particularly hard on entertainment industry, beginning with the first quarter.

What started with a big bang, "Prison Break" had to swallow bitter pill when Fox decided to pull the plug after four years in the running. The series starring Wentworth Miller took a sharp plunge in the transition from third (8.2 million) to fourth (5.3 million) season, which prompted the network to order two additional episodes as a mean of conclusion to the whole drama. TV Fanatic Mid-Season Report Card: Melrose Place

We must face the sad truth: every single primetime show is on hiatus until 2010. Before the calendar turns, however, let's take a look back.
So far, the TV Fanatic staff has reviewed the ups and downs of The Vampire Diaries, 90210, House, Heroes, The Good Wife and NCIS in our mid-season report cards.
In this edition: Melrose Place.
Best character: Ella Simms. This is not simply because she wears low-cut dresses and, as proven last episode, black lingerie. Katie Cassidy has taken the bitchy baton from Heather Locklear and run with is like Usain Bolt. The show has still managed to depict a soft side to Ella, however, as her feelings for Jonah appear to be actually sincere. We're excited to watch these two as a couple next month.
Worst character: Violet Foster. She's played by Ashlee Simpson. Need we say more? Fortunately, this "actress" won't be a member of the

'Tis the season to be jolly despondent that the forecast for brand-new network fare looks relatively bleak from now until the New Year. But then again, my DVR could use a little vacation, considering it's been worked harder than an Anna Wintour assistant for most of 2009. Back in September, I publicly announced my intention to break up with Grey's Anatomy and Masterpiece Mystery, but while I indeed made good on my promise to axe those series from my DVR's "series recording" list (as well as The Mentalist), I ended up adding a whopping seven new series to my regular rotation

In our annual Visibility Awards, we formally recognize the people who have positively or negatively impacted lesbian and bi visibility in American entertainment during the year. (See previous years here: 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004.)
From Best Movie to Worst Song to Lesbian/Bi Woman of the Year, these awards recognize the television shows, movies, music, books and people who entertained, inspired,
or disappointed us in 2009.
Last year, some of the category winners were chosen by both the AfterEllen.com staff and AfterEllen.com readers. This year, AfterEllen.com staff and contributing writers chose the winners for each category, as readers will be given the opportunity to vote on a wider range of topics and categories in our first annual Lesbian/Bi Women's Choice Awards in January.
Once again this year, we've included international people, shows and movies as a reflection of the increasing awareness of lesbian and bisexual visibility around the world made possible by the Internet.

The addition of Heather Locklear to the Melrose Place cast was just the first move in a series of steps that has catapulted this remake into must-watch status.
Over the last few episodes, the primetime soap opera has found its over-the-top footing; placed Katie Cassidy's Ella in the spotlight; ended the boring relationship between Jonah and Riley; and given the boot to its two worst actors.
The result is the most fun you'll find on television on Tuesday nights.
Unfortunately, the show went on hiatus just as it was getting really good. But it will return in January with new episodes, faces and storylines, a few of which are teased below:

2009 Year in Review: Television

In 2009, the number of leading lesbian characters on primetime broadcast TV doubled — from one to two.
Out of the estimated 600 lead and supporting characters on network TV, seven of them of are lesbian or bisexual. And of those seven, five of them kissed women last year. And of those five, three of them made out during Sweeps.
Things looked bleak at the beginning of the year, but with the growing trend of lesbian brides getting gunned down or cheating on their wedding days, and the continued trend of bisexual characters only expressing their same-sex attraction during Sweeps, and the loss of Showtime's lesbian drama The L Word, we're ending the year on a downward spiral in terms of lesbian visibility.

The most surprising story in 2009 was the relationship between Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (played by Jessica Capshaw) on Grey's Anatomy.

And What A Very Gay Week It Was!
Man, this week it just seemed like one fricking thing after another. If New Jersey legislators weren't getting cold feet about gay marriage, then Details was peddling incredibly stupid and homophobic humor while Uganda was debating executing gays and As the World Turns was getting canceled and GLAAD was flailing all over the place like a spastic octopus. Well, I guess the only thing to do is make fun of it all. Or die trying!
How do you solve a problem like Buju Banton? Many in the Glbt community were less than delighted when a Grammy nomination went to uber-homophobe reggae artist Buju Banton. GLAAD started an online petition urging the academy to reject Buju for a Grammy while others are urging a boycott of Grammy sponsors. (And others still are asking if GLAAD knows what GLAAD is doing.)
I, on the other hand,

The Fall finale of Melrose Place airs on December 8th and theCW has released two sneak peeks. The first one is a flashback to Amanda and Sydney's final meeting (I think). Be warned, it's very spoilery and reveals what Amanda has been trying to get back from Sydney. The second one is a confrontation between Riley and Jonah. Things are not going well for those two.
You can also check out the promo and photos that I previously posted for this episode.

Next week on "Melrose Place," were Amanda and Sydney smuggling art? And a relationship may be coming to an end. Video below.
Next week will definitely reveal to us what Amanda's been looking for... a painting she maintains Sydney stole. Sydney insists she doesn't have it but based on the note we saw in Sydney's safe... it looks like maybe she has it stashed somewhere.
Meanwhile, everyone's favorite Most Boring Couple in the World looks to be headed for a massive break-up. At a gas station, no less. That seems about right. Will this finally drive Jonah into the waiting arms of Ella Simms? Fingers crossed!

It's Like Having 34,000 Kids. And You Better Not Have A Favorite!
In my last Best.Gay.Week.Ever! I included a collage to show the avatars of just a few of our wonderful AfterElton.com readers who make this site such a great, vibrant place. Just a nice way to show my appreciation with no possible repercussions, right?
Wrong! The squabbling between readers started almost immediately along with charges of favoritism and possibly bribes being offered to a certain editor. Honestly, I haven't seen so much arguing since the last Walker family dinner on Brothers & Sisters.
To assuage those hurt feelings and show that I don't have favorites, I've put together an even bigger collage of avatars chosen strictly at random! There are no favorites here! I love all 34,000 Ae readers equally! I swear!
Sadly, one of the most ferocious arguments that broke out over the previous collage was between

I have a love/hate relationship with the new Melrose Place – in the sense that I love to hate it. Last night I felt some stirrings of amusement at the episode because I like Heather Locklear on the show, as well as David and Lauren's scheming. Let's see if the show can hold my attention a bit longer. Like on the December 8th episode, for example, will be the Fall finale (and, I believe, the last we shall see of Ashlee Simpson and that dude who plays Auggie). Check out the promo below from theCW.

Amanda is most definitely back. She officially moved in to Melrose Place last night, as the episode titled "June" concluded with Heather Locklear making this proclamation.
As for other developments? Our initial episode review touched on many of them - but the TV Fanatic staff has gathered to pick apart a few more.
Find out what topics are on the minds of our Round Table crew below, and feel free to respond with your own take on these issues...
Did Michael kill Sydney?
M.L. House: Of course not. I've watched this show from the very first episode of the original series - and of all the things you can say about Michael Mancini, he's never intentionally killed anyone.
Dr. Shepherd: No. I predict a major letdown to this storyline. Michael may have been killing Sydney with his sexual prowess in bed (as he bragged about this week), but he's a doctor.

Hahaha...
Forgive us, we're still laughing over Violet's storyline on this week's installment of Melrose Place.
As if we could take this character and the actress that plays her any less seriously, the episode "June" found her stalked by her step-brother; admitting to a long-time sexual affair with him; and then threatening him with a baseball bat after he randomly messed up Jonah's desk and and destroyed his camera.
It was hilarious stuff all around, though we doubt that the show was aiming for humor and viewer eye-rolling. Read through our detailed episode guide now and then find out what we actually enjoyed about the hour below...
More Amanda and Michael! Veteran fans of this show had to have been standing and cheering when Amanda confronted Michael. There were no warm greetings, no small talk. It was right back to cattiness and name-calling. Unlike 90210, which struggled to incorporate former characters into the remake,

V: Is the ABC Series Already Doomed to be Cancelled?

Though the television networks don't seem to notice, remakes of old series rarely meet with much success. While shows like Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, and Melrose Place bring name recognition, they rarely live up to expectations. Still, ABC moved ahead with their plans to revive V. Though it was initially successful, will it ultimately meet the same fate?
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they've come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The new V started out strong with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. That was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season.
