While attending the wedding of Blaisdell's daughter in a hotel. Peter inadvertently discovers some men with guns. They are there to rob the security boxes. Peter and his latest partner, Marty Stramm, are tracking a gun dealer trading dangerously advanced weapons. Stramm is a good cop, but the stress of the job is making him abusive towards his wife, Emily. Kwai-Chang offers Emily support, and her self-esteem is boosted as he starts to teach her kung fu, but Stramm reacts explosively and beats her during an argument. Peter and Stramm succeed in apprehending the gun dealer, but Stramm is horrified when his son, Billy, appears outside the police station with a gun, determined to protect his mother. Kwai-Chang and Peter manage to prevent a shootout, and Stramm quits the force rather than continue to endanger his family.

A man takes his daughter, who is sick, to Caine to see if he can help her. Caine makes something for her, and for awhile it seems to work but she soon becomes sick. Caine needs more of the main ingredient, a flower which at this time of the year grows in area taken over by a mad vet. Caine manages to find the flower and when confronted by the man, convinces him to let him go but Peter arrives and they have to go, leaving the flowers behind. They return for the flowers but the man has already laid a trap.

Annie Blaisdell asks Caine to accompany her when she goes to meet someone. After meeting him, she's attacked. Blaisdell's upset with Caine. Season 2, Episode 12: Warlord

A Chinese warlord comes to town looking for Caine. When he fails to find him, he goes looking for Peter so he goes to the station. The man is very ego maniacal that pushes people around and he butts heads with people at the station especially with Frank. Eventually he finds Caine and tells him, he wants him to help his father who is sick. Caine tells him he will see him when he can. The man goes out and runs into Frank and that's when Frank calls him out and they got at it and Frank ends up in the hospital. Caine later tries to help the man's father but he's so sick Caine can't do anything. When his father died, the warlord blames Caine and demands that Caine battle him to the death.

Season 2, Episode 13: The Innocent

Caine's been summoned for jury duty where the case involves a homeless man accused of killing a businessman and robbing him. But the defendant claims the man was already dead when he came across him. Peter decides to go to the trial and as the prosecution makes its case, Caine gives Peter a look which is his way of telling him there were some anomalies in the prosecution's case. Peter has the forensic evidence reviewed and learns that the medical examiner made some oversights. Peter learns that the victim was heavily insured and the beneficiary is his business so the one who has a lot to gain is the man's partner. Peter tries to check him out but couldn't get anything. In the meantime the jury foreman was approached by a man who threatens his family if they don't come back with a guilty verdict. At deliberation Caine hangs the jury. Caine senses something wrong with the foreman and tells Peter that his family could be in danger.

Peter tries to save a beautiful woman who is under the hypnotic spell of a stage illusionist, but she resists him. Caine brings his own brand of magic to the nightclub as he battles the mentalist to deprogram the woman.

One night the man comes into Caine's home and grabs his wife and son and shoots Caine. While Caine is near death, he transports himself to the present and seeks out his grandson--the present day Kwai Chang Caine. When he finds him, he tells him that he has to help his grandmother and father. So Caine goes and along with Bodie and the deputy go to rescue them.
