a pseudo homage to DARK SHADOWS with substance.NIGEL BENNETT the villain BILL PIERCE, 16 April 2001

NIGEL BENNETT plays a sort of villainous version of BILL PIERCE from NIGHT SOUNDS. A vampire masquerading as a club hopping disc jockey. The show revolves around a police detective who is a vampire who must deal with his age old blood lust through the centuries. Or is this a metaphor in a calvinist/Protestant metaphor for his sin nature or "criminal cravings" we all have. A man wrestling with the universal constant the one question we all face...to do good or to do evil? Nick the cop tries to stop from his old ways..yet, has the help of a partner named VETTER and a girlfriend who is a doctor who gives him plasma from a hospital as opposed to him hurting people. This show tackled tough social issues much the way STAR TREK, "V", TWLIGHT ZONE did. The show was a classic adventure, horror, fantasy, show which was a meshing of several genres making it unusually fun to watch and sort of addictive. It was a classic vampire story yet, with characters with depth and operated from a world view against secular humanism...a evil is timeless and knows no cessation world view. Yet, character like lacroix are indifferent to their bloodlust as are corporate giants who prey on the little guy, what's the difference? In the series the NIGEL BENNETT character takes a "survival of the fittest" stance in his age old conflict with NICHOLAS. Nicholas questions the old ways and try to make amends...much like a man hunted by a past crime against him or a person who was in a war haunted by inner ghosts. THis series is also a tale of how ghosts from our past seldom die hard and that being immortal can have a down side...remember the faces of all the friends and loves you've lost over the millenia. An unusually well done show and exceptionally high brow writing make this an instant classic. The show was cut short too soon.it had at least two-three years of life left...perhaps longer. can be seen in reruns in some cable markets on sci-fi if you have it. The key not on this show is the 3D characters in later seasons.
