‘Titans’ and ‘Young Justice’ to Launch DC’s Streaming Service

Dick Grayson isn’t just part of the Teen Titans. He’s leading the Teen Titans.Young Justice (2010)

Lately, we’ve been blessed with an overabundance of good comic news. First, 20th Century Fox releases dates for Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and Dark Phoenix. Now an interesting announcement from Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment.

Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment announced that they are launching a “digital streaming service” at an undisclosed time in 2018. They were obtuse on the details, but the gist is that this streaming service is an “immersive experience designed for the fans.” The service will host a live-action Teen Titans show called Titans and the third season of Young Justice: Outsiders.

Young Justice: Outsiders is the much demanded third season of the Cartoon Network show Young Justice. Young Justice was fantastic: it was spiritually faithful to its source material, beautifully animated, and well voice acted. Following »

We Are Groot (But Also Howard The Duck)

26 April 2017 10:17 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As we look back at what came before ‘Iron Man,’ we marvel at the miracle that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Earlier this week, the Fsr team brainstormed the plot of Avengers 4 based on the idea that its mysterious subtitle was a potential spoiler for the still unseen Avengers: Infinity War. It was a fun exercise that briefly allowed me to nerd out over a few spandex epics penned by personal favorites, Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman. The resulting conversation spawned some excitement, and a good heap of cynicism as well…or better yet, apathy. How much further can the Marvel Cinematic Universe expand? Will Thanos ever sit up from his chair, and prove he’s the big bad Mad Titan comic book fanboys claim him to be? Next week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will mark the 15th entry in Marvel’s unprecedented shared universe machine, and by the time we get to Avengers »

Donnie Darko

Many weird-world genre bending millennial epics have already dated badly, but not Richard Kelly’s sci-fi / horror / satirical mind-trip about a guy given a glimpse of time travel in another dimension. The wit hasn’t faded and the menace hasn’t cooled, and the cast seems hipper than ever: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell, Patrick Swayze, Noah Wyle, Drew Barrymore, Katharine Ross. Two versions, two formats, no waiting.

All-Star Batman Vol. 1: My Own Worst Enemy Review

25 April 2017 6:58 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

This review is based off a volume that collects All-Star Batman #1-5.

Unless you’re a casual reader scoping out this review, odds are that you’re at least somewhat aware of the many contributions Scott Snyder has made to the Batman mythos during this decade. To say that he and Greg Capullo have made their mark is an understatement. Whether it be creating the Court of Owls, redefining the Joker or even putting Jim Gordon under the cowl, that dynamic duo may very well one day find themselves mentioned in the same breath as legendary creative teams such as Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams.

But after wrapping a definitive 51-issue run, where does one go from there? For Snyder, at least, the solution for All-Star Batman was simple: Beyond the borders of Gotham City. I must admit that taking the Dark Knight out of his comfort zone opens up some interesting possibilities, »

Five Places Where We'd Like to See Batman this Spring

21 April 2017 12:27 AM, PDT | Legions of Gotham | See recent Legions of Gotham news »

Credit: PixabayBatman is one busy guy. As well as regularly appearing on our TV screens, at the cinema, in comic strips and at conventions up and down the country, he is also showing up in some more everyday locations. For example, on a trip far away from Gotham City, he recently visited Norwich Castle Mall in a replica Batmobile from the 1989 Batman Film. Eve since he introduced himself to the wide public as played by Adam West in the television series that ran from 1966 to 1968, Batman has been a favourite pop culture icon, and for a number of reasons - not only marketing either - he's never been absent from the spotlight. Here are five of our favourite places that we’d like Batman pop up in soon. At A PartyWhat better place for the superhero to show up than at a party? Ideally, we'd like him to pop up »

Batman Is Forced To Team Up With His Bitter Rival In Bane: Conquest #3

18 April 2017 10:56 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s certainly been an interesting last few years when it comes to the Batman-Bane rivalry, now hasn’t it? Perhaps The Dark Knight Rises’ theatrical release can be partially credited for giving it a much needed kick in the pants, but it did have to rear its head again at some point.

In the time since, the comic book realm has seen Bane make life a living hell for both the Caped Crusader and the Joker with the miniseries Batman: Europa and, more recently, tales such as I am Suicide and I am Bane wrote new chapters in the never-ending feud. And, from the look of it, Bane: Conquest will make its own contribution.

To be honest, we don’t expect Batman to appear all that often in the upcoming 12-issue limited series, but it’s hard to not touch on their rivalry even in the slightest, »

Mark Hamill Shares 'Last Jedi' Batman and Joker Poster Parody

Mark Hamill on Monday delighted fans of two of his biggest franchises when he shared a parody poster from Star Wars that features Batman characters.

The Luke Skywalker actor appeared at Star Wars Celebration over the weekend in Florida and participated in multiple panels, the most anticipated of which was for the upcoming Last Jedi.

Fans not only got a two-minute teaser trailer, but also a new poster, instantly deemed one of the franchise's best.

And, of course, the Internet had to have some fun with it. Almost as quickly as the poster was shown, parodies featuring the faces of »

Although it was brief, this promo video gave us plenty to chew on. Two talking points seem to stand out: Rey mentioning “the balance” of the Force, and Luke saying “it’s time for the Jedi to end.”

But what if these two lines are actually linked? What if the idea of ‘bringing »

Ed Catto: Our Own Worst Enemy

17 April 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Much has been written lately about the recent Marvel Retailer Summit and the unfortunate public relations debacle that followed. As you may know, Marvel had arranged to speak with and listen to leading comic shop retailers following a difficult downturn in their comic sales. The fireworks really started in the subsequent ICV2 interview when Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Print, Sales and Marketing, David Gabriel, summarized the retailer conversations, and the reasons behinds the sales slump in an awkward, clumsy fashion that ignited a plethora of heated conversations.

And then United Airlines’ corporate blunder dominated the headlines so outraged fans and consumers could focus their anger towards that brand instead.

But as the pundits reviewed Marvel’s missteps, there were a few topics missing from these conversations and analyses. Maybe these issues were just pushed into the background, but they are important puzzle pieces necessary to understanding Geek Culture’s retail landscape. »

Shaun Of The Dead Midnights This Weekend at The Tivoli!

16 April 2017 6:47 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

“You’ve got red on you!”

Shaun Of The Dead plays this weekend (April 21st and  22nd) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.

Shaun (Simon Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) are two twenty-something slacker roommates. Shaun spends his days working, playing video games, and hanging out at the pub. Ed does pretty much the same thing, except for the working part. Shaun’s world takes a turn for the worse when, sensing that their life is going nowhere, his girlfriend Liz breaks up with him. Then things really get bad when zombies start showing up in his neighborhood (and everywhere else).

Soon after realizing that The Dead Are Walking The Earth (nothing gets by these blokes), Shaun and Ed decide to rescue Shaun’s mother and father (excuse me, that’s step-father), Liz and her two roommates, and find a safe place to hole up, »

The 25 most iconic movie entrances

Robert Keeling Apr 25, 2017

Saluting the movie characters who make an impression, the minute they appear on the screen...

One thing that unites all of cinema’s most iconic characters is that they were able to make a memorable first impression. Whether it’s bursting onto the scene in a flurry of noise or slowly skulking their way into shot, there’s a fine art to ensuring a character makes an instant impact on screen. An iconic entrance is not just about a momentary impact however, it can also emphasise a character’s importance and help to cement their influence over the rest of the movie.

Sure, the market may be flooded with books from the superhero’s point of view and, while those are certainly great, it’s nice to switch it up every now and then by examining things from the villain’s perspective. As luck would have it, we’ll be able to see what life is like on the other side of the luchador mask when Bane: Conquest officially kicks off in a few short weeks.

While many are relishing the opportunity to take in something focusing primarily on someone who’s arguably Batman’s most dangerous foe, this twelve-issue limited series is made doubly special by the fact that Bane’s original creators – writer Chuck Dixon and artist Graham Nolan – are making their return in order to give us the most definitive tale possible.

Newswire: DC’s animated Batman & Harley Quinn nabs its director

11 April 2017 3:58 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

While the larger DC film universe trundles along, fighting guys in wing suits and screaming about its various Marthas, the company’s animation branch continues to pump out new films that hearken back to its earlier, less grime-covered days. Earlier this month, we reported that head DC Animated Universe honcho Bruce Timm was writing a new Batman And Harley movie, with beloved Bats actor Kevin Conroy returning to voice Bruce Wayne, and The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch playing psychologist-turned-lovestruck supervillain Harleen Quinzel.

Now, Comicbook.com reports that Sam Liu will direct the film, the details of which have so-far been withheld. Liu’s an old hand with DC animation, and while his work on last year’s unnecessarily sexualized take on The Killing Joke—also partially written by Timm—might give us pause, his credits also include films like All-Star Superman, Batman: Year One, and an adaptation of »

Contest: Win A Harley Quinn Injustice 2 Statue

10 April 2017 12:20 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Before you know it, May 16 will be here and you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy of the highly anticipated Injustice 2. Aside from a tie-in prequel comic also kicking off in the very near future, a slew of collectibles can also be expected to flood the market. Fortunately, you have a chance to walk away with what may be one of the prettier ones without having to pay a single dime.

By now, it’s certainly no secret that Harley Quinn has become one of DC’s most popular characters in recent years. Since her debut a quarter century ago on Batman: The Animated Series, she’s built quite the cult following. But given the success of her solo comic book along with appearances in various Arkham games and the Suicide Squad movie, said following may have ballooned to numbers that are starting to rival that of Batman’s. »
