Corporate America has ruined Comicview too
23 January 2003 | by (America) – See all my reviews

At one point this was one of the best showcases for comedians on television. It was broadcast on BET at 10:00. It was funny too. Many famous comedians came to national prominence here, such as DL Hughley, Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer and more. These people were funny too, as they joked about life, racial relations and more. My favorite comedian at first was Don DC Curry he was great.

There were a lot of other comedians that did not become famous but were also very funny. This was a great show until Viacom bought it. Now the show is nothing more than an excuse to show off the best models Viacom could afford to showcase and all of the jokes now are almost exclusively sexual in nature. Like the rest of BET rap music videos seemed to have found it's way into BET as well as they are now playing more rap music instead of showcasing comedians.

I think it is sad that this show has changed so much. But Viacom bought it and BET lost its independent voice. Bruce Bruce as the new host is fair but I think he is too much a product of the corporate image. Comicview was once something great, now it is a relatively mediocre showcase for comedians. It seems like the comedians have lost their edge, the models have taken over as well. The only way I can protest the show is to not watch it anymore and believe me I don't watch it.
