Cougar Town Review: "Free Fallin'"

19 May 2011 3:46 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

I’ll come right out and say it, "Free Fallin'"left me on the floor.

I’ve said this before, but I'll say it again, Cougar Town is at its best when character growth comes along with the comedy. Last night’s episode is another great example.

I’ve always been a fan of the relationship Travis and Jules have, but I’m glad Jules put her foot down with him. Travis shouldn’t have manipulated her like he did (hard to believe considering Jules loves when he “needs” her).

I understand where Travis is coming from after Kirsten broke his heart. He needed some time to put it back together. Is putting your entire life on hold the way to do it? Probably not, but we’ve all made stupid decisions at some (or multiple) points in life.

I applaud Jules’ decision to kick Travis out of the house. »

Cougar Town Review: "Lonesome Sundown"

5 May 2011 5:47 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Unfortunately, I don’t have a council at my disposal for this review so you’ll have to do with me.

"Lonesome Sundown" was the type of Cougar Town episode that elevates itself from the rest for me. One where the comedy is great but the emotional arcs and relationships between the characters also prosper.

It’s one of the reasons why I believe Friends was so successful and why I’ve come to love Cougar Town so much.

The Council is one of the funniest gags the show has done since Penny Can. It was a great way to mess with each other and offered us the greatness that is Jules being forced to spend the weekend on Bobby’s boat.

Seriously, watching Jules eventually embrace her inner Bobby was comedy gold and the cherry on top was her pulling forward in the golf cart. I couldn’t stop laughing. »

Our long national wait for the next new Cougar Town is almost over. The show returns with two episodes this week — one tonight after Dancing With the Stars, and one in its regular Wednesday time slot. Tonight’s episode has Bobby (Brian Van Holt) and Laurie (Busy Philipps) partnering for a business venture to bring “Penny Can” to the masses. 'Cougar Town': Starring Lou Diamond Phillips as himself

12 April 2011 8:06 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

You may have heard that Lou Diamond Phillips is guest-starring on "Cougar Town" later this season. We now have photographic proof.

Phillips plays himself in the episode scheduled for Wednesday, May 4. He's a customer of Grayson's (Josh Hopkins).

To say more would be venturing into spoiler territory, which we don't want to do. But we can tell you that the Phillips-Grayson story is a subplot in the episode, which centers on Jules (Courteney Cox) trying to take a step back while Travis (Dan Byrd) makes a big decision. We're sure that goes well. The crew also sets up a "council" to mete out punishment in an effort to stop taking each other for granted.

We can also offer up a couple more of Phillips' appearance. Whatever it is that Grayson's peddling, it appears Phillips is satisfied with it.

As for this one, we just like the goofy look on Hopkins' face. »
