In Arachnoquake, massive earthquakes unleash giant albino spiders. Freed from their ancient subterranean prison, the spiders go on a murderous rampage through New Orleans.
Currently in production in Louisiana, the movie is a production of Active Entertainment. Arachnoquake is directed by Griff Furst, who also directed Swamp Shark, one of the highest-rated Syfy Saturday Original Movies of 2011.
Syfy is a media destination for imagination-based entertainment. With year round acclaimed original series, events, blockbuster movies, classic science fiction and fantasy programming, a dynamic Web site (Syfy.com), and a portfolio of adjacent business (Syfy Ventures), Syfy is a passport to limitless possibilities. Originally launched in 1992 as Sci Fi Channel, and »
New Orleans survived the worst hurricane of a generation, but can it survive an Arachnoquake? Not just an earthquake... an earthquake that unleashes giant albino spiders from deep within the bowels of the earth. Can Carol Seaver, John Connor, and Alfalfa save the Big Easy from an earth-rattling, eight-legged apocalypse?
Syfy sent out a press release Tuesday regarding the just-wrapped production Arachonoquake starring Tracey Gold, formerly of “Growing Pains”, currently on “Starving Secrets with Tracey Gold”, and soon to be seen on the new season of “Celebrity Wife Swap”, and Edward Furlong of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Pet Sematary 2 fame.
Ethan Philips (Neelix on "Star Trek: Voyager") and Bug Hall round out the cast. The press release bills actor Bug Hall as one of the stars of The Little Rascals. If you’re like me, your first reaction to that would be, “Aren’t they all dead?” I was »
Former "Growing Pains" star Tracey Gold is the latest '80s icon to sign on for an impossibly silly Syfy drama: "Arachnoquake," which somehow doesn't have an explanation point in the title, will find her battling giant albino spiders unleased by earthquakes. Also appearing in the TV movie are be Bug Hall ("The Little Rascals"), Ethan Phillips (" Star Trek: Voyager" ) and Edward Furlong, who is somehow listed only fourth in Syfy's news release despite starring in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." A production of Active Entertainment, "Arachnoquake" is directed by Griff Furst, who also »

The cast of the upcoming film Lovelace already shows promise, with Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard set to star. And now, a week from when the movie is set to begin filming in Los Angeles, a few more have boarded the project, among which is Hank Azaria. Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, Lovelace will have Seyfried playing Linda Lovelace, star of a number of adult films, among them was the well known 1972 adult film Deep Throat. Sarsgaard is set to play her husband Chuck Trayner. Earlier this month, we shared the news that Juno Temple and Wes Bentley were also set to join the cast. The latest bit of news adds four more to the list. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Night at the Museum), Chris Noth (Sex and the City), Bobby Cannavale (Win Win) and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) have joined »
Director Joe Johnston brings his 1991 classic to Hi-Def for the first time December 13
Before directing the Nazi smashing, highflying World War II era Captain America: The First Avenger, director Joe Johnston embarked on a similar adventure with the now classic pulp comic throwback The Rocketeer. Dismissed upon its initial release in 1991, this soaring escapade has grown into a solid cult hit, and stands as one of the best superhero movies of the 90s.
The film follows young pilot Cliff (Billy Campbell), who stumbles upon a secret rocket-pack that turns him into a daring masked vigilante, out to stop the Nazis and win the girl. We recently caught up with Mr. Campbell to reminisce about The Rocketeer's twentieth anniversary, its lovely debut on Blu-ray, and his return as Darren Richmond on Season 2 of The Killing.
Here is our conversation.
When The Rocketeer came out in 1991, it wasn't the box office »
When a movie like "Avatar" brings home about 2.8 billion in global receipts, it's no wonder when people start crawling out of the woodwork to get a piece of that spicy meat-a-ball.
Thus is the case with Mark Ryder, a former employee of James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment who claims the "Titanic" filmmaker sank his dreams of success. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryder filed a suit in Los Angeles Superior Court wherein he sites treatments, photos, 3-D imagery and character elements all created for an abandoned project titled "K.R.Z. 2068."
In the complaint Ryder alleges that "K.R.Z." was an "environmentally-themed 3-D epic about a corporation's colonization and plundering of a distant moon's lush and wondrous natural setting," which also included "a corporation spy," "anthropomorphic, organically created beings populating that moon," and the spy revolting with the natives against corporate miners.
Yes, it's true, "K.R.Z." was »

What do you think of immediately when you think "exploding head"? Scanners, yes? Well, that film and many more are represented in a newly discovered "exploding head video montage" that culls many of our favorite scenes involving cranial damage.
From The Running Man to Chopping Mall, From Dusk Till Dawn to Dawn of the Dead, this is one video you may want to watch after setting aside your breakfast this morning. Kudos to the editing team for this wet, gruesome and loving display of carnage.

Though she has produced such theatrical blockbusters as Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Gale Anne Hurd has recently found herself working with large-scale projects on the small screen. Now that AMC’s smash-hit The Walking Dead has solidified her as a top-notch producer in both formats, Hurd is turning her attention to the conspiracy-laden government facility Area 51.
Reportedly, Hurd is ready to begin shopping around a new hour-long drama based on the book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, from author Annie Jacobsen.
In the book, Jacobsen recounts the long, mysterious history of Area 51 through first-hand accounts of some 19 individuals who worked – and sometimes lived on – the military base, and another 55 that had ties to the facility in some form or another. Jacobsen’s work goes ...

The short answer: No.
the long answer:
On Sunday's (Nov. 20) "The Walking Dead," a desperate and confused Lori Grimes (played by Sarah Wayne Callies) downs a handful of something labeled "Morning After Pills" in an attempt to abort a pregnancy already several weeks down the road. And now Erin Gloria Ryan, writing for Jezebel, is accusing the show of spreading "icky morning-after pill myths."
In last week's episode, a character named Lori found out that she was pregnant. She decided to end her pregnancy by sending some guys to raid the nearest pharmacy of the morning after pill, which the show implied would cause an abortion. The two men returned with dozens of blister packs full of wasplike horse pills and a pill bottle labeled "Morning After Pill." None of this looks anything like actual Plan B; seasoned harlots know that Plan B is two tiny white round pills, like Barbie sized communion wafers, »
Is it better to show a newcomer the original Star Wars trilogy first, or the prequels? James examines both sides of the argument…
A few months ago my family was almost torn apart by a terrible revelation - my brother's girlfriend had never seen Star Wars. While you wrestle with the inconceivability of this notion, you should understand that she’s not a bad person, just a misguided one.
Fortunately, my brother and I were there to guide her back on the straight and narrow.
All too quickly, though, a problem arose: which trilogy should we show her first? The original or the prequels? Some of you may think this is a clear choice. You may be thinking there can only be one answer. But no, this is a problem fraught with difficulties, traps and pitfalls.
Fortunately for you, this a thorny path that I have already walked, so let »
Like Crazy, the indie romance that earned a Sundance seal of approval from last year’s festival, is a movie that lives and breathes on the chemistry of its two stars, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Felicity Jones (Brideshead Revisited). Even off-screen, the mojo between the two is just as vibrant.
I took part in the chemistry between Yelchin and Jones during our small chat about the film, which includes a discussion about facial hair, Space Jam, and the unique occasion in which Yelchin received his first kiss.
Let’s talk about facial hair in movies for guys. (To Yelchin), Do you like your facial hair in this movie?
Felicity Jones: It’s a necessary evil (laughs).
Anton Yelchin: I think what we tried to do was that basically the first time after you meet him after he hadn »

Prior to the summer of 1993, everything in the movie world was as it had always been.
After that summer, everything was different.
The difference-maker was a simple monster movie. Yup. That's all it was - a simplistic, almost paint-by-numbers tale of ordinary people on the run from giant monsters. On the surface, that really doesn't sound like enough to get worked up about.
And a monster movie is exactly what audiences were expecting when they filed into movie theaters that summer. When they emerged two hours and seven minutes later, their eyes were open to a brand new world of filmmaking.
A world in which dinosaurs and humans could share the screen; it was a world where within a few years it was conceivable that you might be able to look at a »
Walt Disney has released the first images for their forthcoming Japanese import The Secret World of Arrietty.
Residing quietly beneath the floorboards are little people who live undetected in a secret world to be discovered, where the smallest may stand tallest of all. From the legendary Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Ponyo) comes The Secret World of Arrietty, an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series The Borrowers.
Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents (voices of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (voice of Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty (Air-ee-ett-ee) remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. But when 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a »

If there's anyone who knows about breaking barriers in the visual effects industry, it's Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett and John Rosengrant, whose computer-generated dinosaur effects on Jurassic Park forever changed the FX landscape, earned them Academy Awards and famously caused George Lucas to tear up with joy. But their work pioneering new technologies did not begin or end with Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic. The artists have worked on some of Hollywood's most technologically innovative titles including Star Wars, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Predator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Avatar. »
