James Cameron Considering a New ‘Terminator’ Trilogy

8 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Terminator franchise has not been downright “good” since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, but hopefully that’s about to change. In 2018, the rights to the Terminator franchise revert back to James Cameron, and the originator of the series has been working with current rights holder David Ellison to make plans to reinvigorate the series. Word leaked in January that Cameron was looking to oversee a new Terminator reboot, with Deadpool director Tim Miller eyed to take the helm, but nothing has been officially announced just yet. Is the Internet killing the straight-to-home entertainment movie?

Tom Jolliffe on whether the internet is killing the straight-to-home entertainment movie…

Going to the cinema has long been an escape. It’s an event. A special outing. When that was your only option of seeing a film it obviously limited the options the general public had. The business became bigger and bigger. Cinemas spread through towns and cities, widening the options further. Then TV allowed us to watch at home. With that, it also bought TV premieres. Films made especially to bypass the big screen (and indeed offer the option of serials, sitcoms, soaps etc).

Then came the video age. This saw an explosion. A whole new wave. Suddenly the quantity of available films become astronomical. This avenue of distribution meant film-makers could shoot something relatively cheaply and then aim directly for the home market. Alternatively it also gave a theatrical film a second bite of the cherry if »

Wild Bunch inks Us deal for Cannes title '12 Days'

20 July 2017 4:47 AM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Exclusive: Documentary capturing French psychiatric system premiered at Cannes.

Distrib Films Us has acquired Us rights to Raymond Depardon’s documentary 12 Days (12 Jours), capturing the stories of vulnerable psychiatric patients hospitalised against their will through the special court-room hearings deciding their fate.

The company’s founding co-chief François Scippa-Kohn did the deal with Eva Diederix, head of sales at Wild Bunch which is handling international sales. The film is being lined up for an autumn release.

Under a new French law introduced in 2011, any hospital admitting a person against their consent has 12 days to submit a detention application to a special judge. Before the introduction of the law psychiatrists handled the decision.

Some 90,000 French citizens are sectioned in this way every year. Veteran French photographer and filmmaker Depardon filmed 72 such hearings, focusing on 10 of the cases he witnessed for the documentary.

12 Days premiered in a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival this year to strong reviews »

The 20 Best Sci-Fi TV Series of the 21st Century, Ranked

18 July 2017 9:57 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

It hardly needs mentioning, but not all science-fiction is created equal. Even as a term, it’s difficult to pin down exactly what constitutes sci-fi, especially in a medium like TV that can change so much from week to week or season to season. So when we took stock of the best TV shows from the past two decades, we turned to one unimpeachable source as a guide for what we should include in our list.

Thanks, Roman.

That’s not to say that a few of the shows might have an odd sword or two, but most of what we tried to single out here imagines a world markedly different from our own. Some take place in reimagined futures, while others take a sharper focus on the present with some key, otherworldly changes.

Given the wealth of shows in this genre, we opted not to include animated or unscripted series in this particular list. »

7 July 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Saban Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Taran Killam’s “Killing Gunther,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The cast includes Killam’s fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Bobby Moynihan, Hannah Simone, Cobie Smulders, Paul Brittain, Amir Talai, Aaron Yoo, Ryan Gaul, and Allison Tolman. The action-comedy is produced by Killam, Kim Leadford, Ash Sarohia and Steve Squillante, executive produced by Schwarzenegger, and financed by StarStream Media and Ingenious Media.

Saban is planning a theatrical release later this year. Imr International is handling the foreign rights.

Schwarzenegger portrays the titular Gunther, the world’s greatest (and most arrogant) hitman. After the assassin community tires of his antics, a group of eccentric killers from across the globe come together to set the perfect trap. Their master plan quickly turns into a series of embarrassing fails as Gunther always appears one step ahead.

The film, originally titled “Why We’re Killing Gunther,” just wrapped production.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is coming back to cinemas, which is a great thing, but it will be in 3D which is….a bit less exciting. James Cameron‘s 1991 sequel still remains one of the best blockbusters of all time, a great sci-fi film, and a terrific piece of popcorn entertainment. So any reason to see it on the big screen is a good one, but the director is spending some time trying to explain why 3D is necessary this time around.

A Second Trailer For Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D Has Surfaced

Later this summer, moviegoers will once again be forced to forfeit their clothes, boots and motorcycles, but, on the plus side, they’ll be afforded some 3D glasses in return. So, now that I’ve made you conjure up that mental picture, let’s talk about the re-release of one of the most popular science fiction movies of all-time, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Now, the idea of doing a stereoscopic conversion for this film has been kicked around for some time, but given the fact that recent installments in the franchise weren’t received all that well by the public at large, it’s understandable that somebody in Hollywood would come up with a way for this franchise to continue pumping out cash.

So, when the first trailer for the 3D version of T2 dropped a few months back, we were understandably excited. But, when the initial rush of adrenaline wore off, »
