For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, (c) profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves can be found here.

After spending five years in a Turkish prison during the late 12th century Crusades, Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner) and a warrior Moor named Azeem (Morgan Freeman) manage to escape together and make it back to England where Robin learns that his father has been murdered and his lands seized by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman), who is plotting to take over the throne of King Richard. Consequently, Robin joins with a band of thieves hiding out in Sherwood Forest after the Sheriff had them exiled from their villages.

After saving his men from being hanged, Robin breaks into the chamber where the Sheriff and Maid Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) are about to be married by the Bishop of Hereford (Harold Innocent). A fierce sword fight takes place with the Sheriff going after Robin wih his father's own sword. Robin eventually kills the Sheriff by stabbing him with his own dagger. Suddenly, the witch Mortianna (Geraldine McEwan) charges at him with a spear, but Azeem fells her with his sword thus fulfilling his vow to Robin. In the final scene, some days later, Robin and Marian are about to be married by Friar Tuck (Michael McShane) when King Richard (Sean Connery) rides up and stops the wedding in order to bless the marriage and thank Robin for saving his kingdom.

In 2003, there has been a re-release of this "Robin Hood"-film with a top-notch cast. The previous DVD-releases had been rather unsatisfactory. This reissue fulfills all possible wishes. The DVD offers an almost 12 minutes longer extended cut of the film. A detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.. Even the new Extended Edition is censored in Britain because of the PG-rating: Several of the torturing scenes were altered and of course the wedding scene. Only the British Blu-ray that has been rated BBFC 15 features an uncut print. A detailed comparison between both versions can be found here.
