Jack Sloan (Peter Weller) is a very successful businessman, from Omaha, Nebraska, who now resides in Paris. Despite his humble, foster-child background, Jack has built himself up to a net worth of $250 million. Yet, he has few friends and a long string of brief romantic encounters that have failed to produce a lasting relationship. Enter Jessie (Carey Lowell). She is a fashion model who meets Jack at an art gallery. Jack is instantly smitten; Jessie has an initial lack of enthusiasm. As the romance kindles, however, Jack becomes worried that Jessie is only after his money. He schemes with a business partner to make it appear that Sloan Enterprises has gone belly up. Now, Jack works at a fast-food joint. Will Jessie stay true?
This endearing but unknown romantic comedy has several things going in its favor. First, Weller and Lowell exude charm and loveliness in abundance. Next, the Paris setting guarantees an attractive background for the story to unfold. Finally, the plot has enough surprises to keep the viewer on his or her toes. No, it's not When Harry Met Sally. But, perhaps, the only true negative aspect of the film is its lack of renown. It may be difficult to locate this little film at video stores and libraries. (This reviewer ordered hers from an on-line bookseller.) Yet, for all those who like their romances with comedy, this is still another choice for those crazy, lazy days.
