Storyline

As soon as they meet Ari and Sam get into a pretty passionate - and combustible - relationship. Indeed, the scenes of their rendezvous often seem reminiscent of the Chicago Fire. But the course of true flaming lust never runs true, and as they try to handle their all-consuming passion their two best friends endlessly meet to compare notes on developments. Goofs

Ari claims Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity when he was hit in the head in 1692 by a 'Red Delicious', an apple variety that did not exist in 17th century England and would not exist for another 200 years until the cultivar was recognized and named in 1892 in Iowa, U.S.A. 'Red Delicious' is actually a retronym for the 'Delicious' apple, the 'Red Delicious' name wouldn't come into usage until 1914 when Stark Nursery introduced it's 'Golden Delicious' apple to differentiate between the two.. Not as bad as I thought it would be.
21 June 1999 | by (Bellevue, Washington) – See all my reviews

I thought it would be cheesy and corny, and I wasn't far wrong. It starts out that way. The movie can be divided into thirds. First the corn-ball contrivance of having a fire start every time they make love. Perhaps it was obvious to everyone that no one can stomach 90 minutes of THAT. So fortunately it evolves into a romantic comedy where the two lovers are seen bouncing off friends (and their lovers), colleagues, therapists. There are no family members, which is just as well because such characters would probably over-complicate things. In the last third it becomes a "relationship" movie. This is totally a lightweight fluff piece, but there are enough snippets of pseudo-clever, mildly amusing dialogue and almost charming, quirky characters to give the viewer the sense that the time wasn't completely wasted. Similar to Singles except the scenes are less well connected and fail to hit target as often. That and the fact that Singles is about several relationships, any one of which was more interesting than Kevin's and Kyra's in Pyrates.
