Parents Guide for
Point Break (1991) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Rated "R" for Strong Bloody Violence, Extreme Language and Profanity Throughout, and Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how explicit that aspect of the film is on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the Frightening/Intense Scenes category is the total sum of all the sections out of the highest sum possible (50) and therefore an approximation of how much explicit content of any kind is in the film.

7/10

a woman's bare butt is shown. it's shown briefly

a bank robber puts his bare butt in front of a bank worker's face during a bank robbery

a man pulls his pants down and his bare butt is shown

a woman is fully naked in a shower. brief female frontal, but her breasts are shown

there are scenes at certain beaches where women are in sexual clothing (example: bikini's and bras)

a man makes a references of "the lingerine section of the Sears catalog." lingerine means in my opinion, sexual clothing

there are some kissing scenes, one of which lasts about 1 to 2 minutes.

Violence & Gore

9/10

a man threatens a woman with a gun during a raid scene and he is shot in the head and it is graphic

a man at a raid is shot in the foot. blood referenced

a guy is getting beat up by a group of men and then, his friend shows up to help out.

there is a fight scene between Bohdi (Patrick Swayze) and Utah (Keanu Reeves) which it is bloody and brutal

a woman is threatened with a knife and a man says that one of his guys will "gut her like a pig"

one of the bank robbery scenes turns out to be a brief shooting, which people are shot and blood is referenced.

a guy shoots someone else in the back and blood pours.

a guy shoots 2 guys. 1 dies, but it is not bloody.

Profanity

10/10

"F**k" is used 105-120 times and other profanities.

They might be language worse than the f word.

I believe I may consider this one of the most profane movies that Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves has ever starred in

5/10

there is a scene where a couple of guys are drinking beer while working on a case

during a party, there is alcohol and beer drinking

during the raid, there is a guy who pours beer in his cereal.

a man reveals a pack of drugs which is crystal meth

4/10

when a woman is threatened with a knife, she kicks, curses, and screams.

a woman screams at a man in which she believes that her relationship with the guy isn't working out and she threatens him with a gun.

the raid scene can disturb some

the bank robberies can be a bit intense

Total Rating: 35/50

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. Star Wars), 20-25 is good for anyone around 12 (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone that is squeamish or immature (i.e. Air Force One); 30-40 is recommended for around 15/16 and up. (i.e. This). 40 and up is pretty much for adults, with ratings definitely hard R / NC-17 (i.e. The Evil Dead).

Point Break is a very good film, but it is an intense film. Please watch this and read this before letting your children watch this.
