Billy Bob Thornton hasn't written and directed a film in almost ten years, and to hear him tell it, that's in part because he's a bit detached from the current film scene. But he and prior collaborator Tom Epperson (with whom he wrote The Gift and One False Move) have written a new script called Jayne Mansfield's Car, which Mr. Thornton plans to star in as well as direct. In a new interview to promote Faster, he gives up the first details about the new project. All we'd previously had [1] was the title, which came from an interview with Collider. Now, to Reuters [2], the actor/writer/director said, It takes place in 1969 in Alabama. It's a comedy drama, and it's about human relationships. This one deals a lot with how different generations view war and also it examines the randomness of life and death. The latter aspect, I suppose, could tie into the title, »

Ice Road Truckers has always been one of those shows that just missed me. Reality shows frequently have trouble getting the final experience to match up with their on paper sell, but Irt worked that problem in the opposite direction of most. When I first heard about the show, I couldn’t imagine the interest. Well, apart from a certain Nascar “maybe a truck will go in the drink” sort of interest. Amazingly, the show has delivered, and the ratings show that I’m not alone in thinking so.
Still, as I mentioned, the show didn’t completely hook me. The crew is taking things up a notch now with Ice Road Trucker Deadliest Roads, and it’s hard to deny that this one makes it difficult to look away. We’ve moved to a job hauling loads in the Himalayas, on roads where on average someone dies every 4.5 minutes. »

In a change of pace (and indeed everything else) from the previous week’s Video Vault entries, I wanted to discuss a film I first watched later on in my teenage years, where my appreciation of a broader and diverse range of cinema was forming, and I was able to balance that with my interests in other, more obvious genres.
The film in question is 1992’s modern noir, One False Move. Written by and co-starring the then virtually unknown Billy Bob Thornton, it’s a quietly intense and absorbing character study, starring 80’s favourite Bill Paxton in the lead. The film failed to find much of an audience on its initial Us cinema release (more on this below) but it’s gained much praise since then, and deservedly so.
Paxton plays Sheriff Dale “Hurricane” Dixon in small town Star City, Arkansas. A well-respected and loved family man, he finds himself »

We’re finishing up our coverage of Comic-Con 2010 with the press conference for The Others Guys, a buddy cop comedy starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson, and Samuel L. Jackson. Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) co-wrote and directed.
But first, Columbia Pictures is running a voting contest on Facebook to bring the red carpet premiere to the winning city. The field has already narrowed from 25 to 10 and then to 5 (poor Austin missed the cut), but click over and vote for your favorite. The final five are Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, and St. Louis or, if you’re not partial to one, just click Dallas. The winner will be announced August 2.
Ok, back to Comic-Con, where McKay, Ferrell, Wahlberg, and Mendes took questions at the press conference:
How much of the movie was improvised? What percentage would you say…?
McKay: We have to, for our bond company, we »

We’ve spilled a lot of ink on Fox’s prehistoric drama Terra Nova, but that’s not the only Steven Spielberg-produced series with a sci-fi bent premiering in 2011. Plus, TNT now has the jump on early looks, as the network released twenty new stills from the alien invasion drama Falling Skies. Unfortunately, no extraterrestrials are pictured, but there’s plenty of gun totin’ and motorcycle ridin’ to tide over this red-blooded young male.
Stars Noah Wyle (ER) and Moon Bloodgood (Terminator: Salvation) as well as co-executive producer Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) will hold a Q&A panel session on July 23rd at Comic-Con. Hit the jump for details, and check out the pics.

I think it was in 1988 when I first started getting into Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert who took great pleasure in ripping into films and each another. If tonight's announcement tells us anything, it's that, when everyone is chummy, and agreeing to agree or disagree, it makes for boring television and what I imagine was a ratings falloff for several post-Ebert years now. - I think it was in 1988 when I first started getting into Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert who took great pleasure in ripping into films and each another. Earlier this morning, Nintendo shocked the world by announcing the Nintendo 3Ds, a successor to the hugely popular Nintendo DS system. All we know so far is that it will have 3D capabilities and an analogue stick — so apart from some very general hardware specifications, we know very little.
But what is a gaming platform without software to back it up? The PlayStation 2 became the best selling console of all time, not due to its graphical prowess or its beautiful design, but because of the plethora of titles that were available for the system.
Here at Game Rant, we’ve been thinking about the games that we really want to see land on the 3Ds, and how they’ll work. So, without further ado;
1) A New 3D Mario Game
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is coming out May 23rd, but that’s a Wii exclusive – What about the poor old 3Ds? Heck, »

Last June it was reported that Noah Wyle (ER) had been cast in the lead role of a mysterious new alien invasion TV series co-conceived by Steven Spielberg for TNT. We knew at that time that the series would be scripted by Oscar-nominated Saving Private Ryan scribe, Robert Rodat (who also co-conceived the idea), and it would be set six months after an alien invasion on Earth. Wyle will play, “the leader of a ragtag group of survivors who must fight for their survival and maintain their humanity.”
Fast forward six months and more in-depth details have emerged over at Sci Fi Wire about the still untitled Spielberg series. The first major thing is that Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) has joined the cast as a therapist who helps children cope with the trauma of the invasion. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the series, with the pilot written by Rodat and »

As part of a continuing strategy to expand its slate of original programming, TNT has given the greenlight to three new original series: a bold alien-invasion series from DreamWorks Television and Steven Spielberg that stars Noah Wyle (ER, TNT's The Librarian movies); Delta Blues (working title), an offbeat series starring Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) and Alfre Woodard (Three Rivers) and produced for TNT by George Clooney and Grant Heslov's Smokehouse Pictures and Warner Horizon Television; and Rizzoli & Isles (working title), a crime drama starring Angie Harmon (Law & Order, Women's Murder Club) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS), based on Tess Gerritsen's popular mystery novels and produced for TNT by Warner Horizon Television and Ostar Productions. TNT's announcement brings to 10 the total number of original series currently on the TNT slate.
