10 Movies Perfect for Father's Day

16 June 2017 5:49 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

We pick 10 movies that honor the fathers in our lives, but they’re also highly entertaining films that dad himself will enjoy!

Father's Day is a celebration of the fathers that have positively influenced our lives, as well as the impact of fathers on our society as a whole. To show just how important fathers can be, I selected 10 films where fathers play an important role. In selecting these films, I used two criteria. First, they are movies that celebrate all kinds of dads. Some of these movie dads may be selfish or disillusioned, some don’t have the best relationship with their kids, and some of them might seem like they are doing more harm than good. But despite their weaknesses, they all share one thing in common; an unrelenting love for their children. By contrasting different dads, I wanted these films to show us the many different ways »

15 June 2017 12:19 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Following the first trailer that arrived in May, Open Road Films has released the second trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy Home Again, starring Reese Witherspoon as a complex woman named Alice Kinney. This video includes new footage which reveals that it is actually Alice's mother (Candice Bergen) who suggests that the three young filmmakers (Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky) she meets on her birthday should live in her guest house. Things get even more complicated when Alice's estranged husband (Michael Sheen) comes to visit, finding these three youngsters living in her house.

This new trailer, which debuted on Open Road Films YouTube, reveals that, the morning after Alice's tryst with Pico Alexander's character, her mother unexpectedly returns home with her young daughters, who discover that their mother had some company last night. This trailer also includes a new scene where Alice tries to break down some ground rules for the house, »

5 Lessons For Actresses from Diane Keaton’s AFI Lifetime Achievement Award Tribute

9 June 2017 4:03 PM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

When Diane Keaton accepted the 45th AFI Life Achievement Award from Woody Allen in Hollywood Thursday night, it was the end of one of the more memorable AFI tributes. And as one actress after another explained why Keaton was such a significant role model — from Oscar-winners Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon (Keaton-directed TV movie “Wildflower”) and Meryl Streep (“Marvin’s Room”) to Rachel McAdams (“The Family Stone”) and comedienne Lisa Kudrow (“Hanging Up”) —  it struck me that all actresses should pay attention to why Keaton is so admired and emulated.

Here are some wise lessons to be learned from the star of  “Play It Again Sam,” “The First Wives Club,” “Crimes of the Heart,”  “Shoot the Moon,” and HBO’s “The Young Pope.”

1. Stay single.

Keaton launched her Hollywood career with the day-long wedding scene in “The Godfather,” at the end of which she and fellow theater outsider Al Pacino proceeded to get royally drunk. »

Steve Martin and Martin Short Share a Steamy Kiss For Diane Keaton

9 June 2017 6:50 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Diana Keaton was surrounded by her famous friends when she was honored with a Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in La on Thursday night. While several stars paid tribute to the actress during the ceremony - including Meryl Streep, who dressed up as her iconic character, Annie Hall - one of the best moments was between her Father of the Bride costars Steve Martin and Martin Short. Aside from serenading Diane, on and off stage, the comedians put their bromance on full display when they locked lips at their seats. Perhaps they're trying to give Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield, who famously shared a smooch at the Golden Globes, a run for their money. Meryl Streep Dressed as Diane Keaton to Honor Diane Keaton, and It Was Perfect

8 June 2017 8:45 PM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Diane Keaton was (finally) honored with a Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in La on Thursday night. The big event brought out lots of her famous friends and costars, including Father of the Bride's Steve Martin and Martin Short, Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep, who took the stage to give a toast to her fellow legend. Meryl went the extra mile to celebrate her longtime friend by wearing a look inspired by one of Diane's most iconic characters, Annie Hall; from the blazer and tie to the oversize hat, Meryl really nailed her homage to the 1977 film, as well as Diane's own unique personal style. The 71-year-old star looked overjoyed to see Meryl's ensemble, and the two stuck together throughout the gala. The Dramas of Diane Keaton

“It’s not a good idea to be identifiable, though it’s reassuring. It feels safe in most ways, and that’s bad, because it means that you’re accepted, and once that happens that’s where you stay. You have to watch yourself. I’d like a life like Katharine Hepburn’s in terms of work. She matured. She made the changes. Like Martha Graham.”

Diane Keaton,  New Yorker, 1978

Diane Keaton is to receive the American Film Institure Lifetime Achievement award on June 8th. We should be pleased, not only deserved because Keaton is a true legend, but also because highly accomplished comic actors are so often overlooked by awards bodies. Think of Keaton and Annie Hall comes immediately to mind along with other Woody Allen films, as well as comedies like The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride and Something's Gotta Give. Female Directors Power List: See Which Filmmakers Grossed Over $100 Million

1 June 2017 12:35 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Wonder Woman” is expected to top the weekend; claims that it will be the most successful film ever directed by a woman will soon follow. That’s possible, but far from guaranteed: While Hollywood’s pretzel logic would suggest that women rarely direct blockbusters, Patty Jenkins’ success story will have a lot of competition.

The dearth of women directors trusted by studios to helm top movies becomes even more suspect when adjusting grosses to current ticket prices. Despite limited opportunities, 14 have grossed over $200 million, and 40 total over $100 million when calculated at current numbers.

Below, we go into detail about the top directors and their movies; there’s a lot to see, with some compelling and surprising conclusions. However, more than any other statistic, here’s one that stands out: Among the most successful female directors, after adjusting to current ticket prices, the career average per film gross is over $100 million for several. »
