Trivia

In one of the earlier script drafts, the babysitter's death was supposed to be a more elaborate story line: the Crandell children were all suspects, and they all had their reasons to kill her. Although certain scenes were scaled down, elements of their motives remain in the final cut of the film: Walter having to do a book report, Melissa forced to wear a dress, Zack losing Cynthia. Goofs

When Kenny goes to the window after Walter falls from the roof, he clearly has two rips in the seat of his jeans, just below the pockets. Later, at the hospital, he only has one rip in his jeans, much lower on the left leg. See more »

Quotes

Rose Lindsey: Sue Ellen, have you ever had a 48 hour orgasm?
Sue Ellen "Swell" Crandell: No, I've never been to Santa Barbara.

Crazy Credits

The two groundskeepers for the cemetery stand over the Babysitters grave and comment how nice it was for her to leave them the money. The tombstone reads "Nice Old Lady inside who died of natural causes". See more »

Fun from the word GO!

How could you NOT like this movie! I am watching it right now, and it has inspired me to write a review, and hopefully give it more recognition and more importantly, a higher rating!!!! Kids home alone with no parents, free to do whatever, but also trying to maintain living! Each character has their own stereotype- Walter the youngest: a handful, Melissa: the disobedient tomboy, Kenny: the headbanging rocker drop-out, Zachary: the calm, but sneaky love struck teen and Sue-Ellen: the responsible, yet hip mother of her siblings. This movie is full of much excitement and a great plot. You cannot go past this underrated classic!
