Parents Guide for
Delicatessen (1991) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

It is implied that one of the female tenants is sleeping with the butcher to pay her rent. Bed springs squeak suggestively for comedic effect and in one scene the female tenant is seen redressing from the back, already in undergarments. There is no nudity.

Violence & Gore

There is mild offscreen violence implying murder, but in one scene we see a glimpse of a man slitting another man's throat. The man is hanging upside down from the roof and there is a lot of blood. Then we find it's a dream. There also are several humorous Rube Goldberg Machine-style suicide attempts by one of the tenants, all of which fail.

Profanity

There are a few uses of the S- word and F-word by "unsavory" people.

Small children smoking.

This is a comedy about post-apocalyptic cannibalism.

At one point the butcher tells a man to kill his grandmother before she'll only be good for marrow paste.

The butcher also tries to convince a less than sane tenant to commit suicide by whispering in a ghostly fashion into the pipes leading into her room

The Troglodists (a group of rebels) are a little frightening in appearance, dressed in gas masks, rubber clothing, and rags.
