Storyline

After some years of tension, Richard begins a sexual relationship with his sister Natalie. Now married, the relationship proves dangerously obsessional. Their private intensity (& working class origins) contrast with the middle-class, inhibited, stuffy public scenes we see in the Richmond world into which Natalie has moved with her marriage. As the guilt and intensity of the siblings increases we seem to be heading for disaster, a forboding which increases when Natalie's husband Sinclair finds out. Trivia

Close My Eyes reworks many of the themes from Stephen Poliakoff's stage play 'Hitting Town.' There's still the plot of a torrid, brother/sister love affair, but it includes the upheaval of the London Docklands development, the late 80s recession, and the AIDS scare, which had just emerged out into the open. Quotes

[first lines]
Natalie: You're late.
Richard: Sorry, it was unavoidable, trains on Sunday, you know what they're like.
Natalie: Unavoidable? I don't believe it. I've eaten all the food.
Richard: You've eaten all the food? Now that's serious.
