Storyline

In 1948 Los Angeles, everyone uses magic- everyone except hard-boiled private detective H. Phillip Lovecraft, who refuses for "personal reasons." Lovecraft is hired by a mysterious rich man to recover a stolen book, the Necronomicon. Investigating, he finds that the book holds the key to taking over the world by magical means, releasing the "Old Ones". Written by Ken Yousten <kyousten@bev.net>

Quotes

Connie Stone: I heard something about you at the club.
Phil Lovecraft: Such as?
Connie Stone: You don't use magic.
Phil Lovecraft: You heard right.
Connie Stone: How do you expect to get out of dumps like this if you don't start playing the game?
Phil Lovecraft: Seems to me we've already had this discussion.
Connie Stone: Everybody uses magic.
Phil Lovecraft: I don't.
Connie Stone: What have you got to show for it? Fly-specked office, a broken-down car and a ugly necktie, that's what all this integrity buys you. Damn it, everybody's got to compromise.
Phil Lovecraft: That's what I keep hearing.

Great film!

The other reviewers are right!"Cast a Deadly Spell" is great!I usually don't watch made for television horror movies, because I think they are all crap. This one beats every other TV-horror I have seen. The story is very intriguing, the acting is excellent(Fred Ward steals the show as a detective Howard Phillip Lovecraft, who tries to find Necronomicon!)and there are some cool monsters featured here.Check out this very humorous and vital mix of horror, noir and comedy.Great fun!
