Boyz n the Hood (1991) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

There are a few sexual scenes in the movie. The first is a talk between Tre and his father in which he uses rather crude words to teach him about the importance of sex and responsibility.

The second is a scene in which a now teenage Tre tells his father of a sexual encounter he claims to have had which is later revealed to have never happened in reality. The scene itself is mildly graphic, a man is seen in bed thrusting on top of a woman, they are covered with a sheet. They roll over and the woman is seen nude and her breasts visible as she thrusts on top of a man in bed.

The last sexual scene is between Tre and his girlfriend, a woman is seen in her underpants and bra. There is then an up close shot of her breasts and we see Tre thrusting on top of her. They are covered with a sheet during the actual sex and no more nudity is seen.

Violence & Gore

A young man is killed by a shotgun in a drive-by shooting. We see a very graphic wound with lots of blood. His bloody body is shown for an extended time.

A few young men are shot with machine guns in a drive-by. We see some blood on one of the men as he is killed point blank (off screen) while begging for his life.

We see a slightly bloody dead body.

There is a constant threat of violence throughout the movie. Guns are pulled in a few scenes and used to threaten people. Shots are sometimes heard being fired in the distance.

Profanity

Lots of profanity. The 'F' Word is used 130 times to fit in with the times and actions of the people around L.A. The 'N' word is also very frequently used as are the 'S' word and many other profanities.

People are always drinking on porches or just anywhere in the movie. Also a reference to crack and a crack pipe is visible early on in the movie. Lots of smoking marijuana and minimal use of tobacco. Drinking is the most frequent act seen throughout the movie.

There is an intense scene where a cop holds a gun to a man's throat

There are lots of scenes that guns and various threats of violence
