Phyllis Diller in a zombie movie? Now that's entertainment!
2 April 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

There have been so many movies about zombies made that it would be a waste of time to count. They range from top notch ('Dawn of the Dead') to bottom of the barrel ('Vampires vs. Zombies') and everything in between. The sub-genre had been exhausted by the end of the 80s. This didn't stop filmmakers from coming up with their own walking dead flicks though. Made on a really low budget and sent right to video, 'The Boneyard' is a flawed, but not uninteresting take on the concept.

Pros: Well acted by all involved. Pulse-pounding score. Excellent special effects. Moves at a decent pace. Spooky location. A few good chills. Some good dashes of humor.

Cons: Not much plot. Little we haven't seen before. At times too talky. Some underdeveloped characters.

Final thoughts: From the start you can tell this film is going to be a bit out there. It has kind of a dark, quirky atmosphere. Not a classic by any stretch, but definitely worth a watch for genre buffs. Fortunately it's been released on DVD, so it's easy to snatch up a copy. Need more convincing? You get to see comedy legend Phyllis Diller with her famous wig off.

My rating: 3/5
