Until the End of the World (1991)
Claire Tourneur: [to Eugene] I still love you, broken ladder.
Claire Tourneur: If I knew where he was, I would be with him; I would be making love with him! Why did I say that?
Burt: It's the sodium pentathol I put in your drink. It's a truth drug.
Claire Tourneur: That's all right. I've given you five sleeping pills myself.
Burt: Oh you bitch. Waiter! Coffee...
Edith Farber: Life ends. But I've seen, finally, after these years. This is our story, my darling. What a chase it has been. What a dance.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: I didn't know the cure for the disease of images. All I knew was how to write. But I believed in the magic and healing power of words, and of stories.
Car navigation system: Friendly reminder that you are over the speed-limit... Claire.
Car navigation system: Traffic congested for the next thirty kilometers. Unable to provide alternative route. I'm sorry... Claire.
Car navigation system: You are leaving the map-zone database: you're on your own... Claire.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: Soon they were hooked; all of them. They lived to see their dreams, and when they slept they dreamed about their dreams. They had arrived at the island of dreams together; but in a short time they were oceans apart. I watched helplessly as Claire and Sam were drowning in their own nocturnal imagery. They ignored each other, and neglected themselves. Dreams which should have been flushed away with the first yawn, were now their only diet; and thus became more concentrated. They made monsters for themselves that they could neither tolerate or do without. They wondered in and out of lost worlds. Feelings and figures emerged from a forgotten past. Their dreams became black holes of isolation. They suffered, finally; from a complete loss of reality.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: 1999 was the year that the Indian nuclear satellite went out of control.
Phillip Winter: We need to find him first and fast. "First" and "fast" are my names.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: [looking speculatively at the "Bounty Bear" interface] How much would it take to set myself up with one of those, hard and soft?
Phillip Winter: Oh, you just don't get it! She doesn't want to fuck you, she wants to fuck him!
Eugene Fitzpatrick: I don't think you understand our relationship. Phillip, admit it! You'd love it but you can't afford it!
Paris Station Graffiti: The end of the Century, the end of us!
Eugene Fitzpatrick: [the dream-player is out of battery] It's dead.
Claire Tourneur: I'm dead. My heart is dead!
Eugene Fitzpatrick: She got a job with NASA looking for crimes of pollution. She spent her thirtieth birthday in space.
U2: I was so near for quite a while/ I was down the hole just passing time/ the last time we met was a low-lit room/ we were as close together as a bride and groom/ ate the food/ drank the wine/ everybody having a good time/ except you/ you were talking about the End of the World.
Peter Gabriel: Is that a dagger or a Crucifix I see/ you hold so tightly in your hand/ and all the while the distance grows between you and me/ I do not understand/ in the Blood of Eden/ lie the woman and the man/ with the man in the woman/ the woman in the man/ in the Blood of Eden/ lie the woman and the man/ we wanted the union/ the union of the woman, the woman and the man.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: Do you love him?
Claire Tourneur: Yes, I do.
Eugene Fitzpatrick: Well, I hope he loves you.
Sam Farber, alias Trevor McPhee: I am neither a Spy or a Jewel Thief!
Eugene Fitzpatrick: What are you, then?
Singer: In beginning is dream... Halls of Disorder...
