The King Awakens in First Trailer for Kong: Skull Island

23 July 2016 4:32 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

As promised earlier this week, and teased with an amazing movie poster, the first official trailer for Kong: Skull Island has arrived and it's pretty spectacular.  Come inside to check it out!

If the teaser poster revealed yesterday wasn't enough for you (and really I Need More Kong!), then today brings about the first trailer for Kong: Skull Island, in which a lot of awesome things are teased, including our first look at the massive size of the King:

What I like most about this trailer, and it's something filmmakers talked about at their panel, is that this isn't the same King Kong story we've seen over and over again.  This isn't Beauty and the Beast, rather this is about man vs. nature.  It's presented more like a war film, and a struggle between this iconic force and mankind.  Samuel L Jackson looks great in the role of the "villain »

Fox's Bones went out with lower ratings.

Fox: Bones (3.8 million/0.8 rating) was down for its season finale. This could be attributed to the fact that some fans only got to watch one third of the episode. Home Free (1.7 million/0.4 rating) also took a tumble.

NBC: Spartan (3.3 million/0.9 rating) continued with steady ratings.

ABC: Battlebots (3.1 million/0.7 rating) and Greatest hits (2.9 million/0.7 rating) continued the downward trend of the evening.

CBS: Big Brother (5.6 million/1.7 rating) slipped two tenths out of encores of The Big Bang Theory (6.6 million/1.3 rating) and Life In Pieces (5 million/1.1 rating).

The CW: An original installment of Beauty and the Beast (0.7 million/0.2 rating) and an encore of Legends of Tomorrow (0.8 million/0.2 rating) were identical to last week.

‘Star Wars,’ ‘Spectre’ Help Boost Pinewood Revenue by 10.9%

11 July 2016 12:24 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Production facilities company Pinewood Group has reported a 10.9% increase in revenue to £83.2 million ($108 million) for the year ended March 31, boosted by Hollywood blockbusters like “Spectre” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Operating profit rose 136% to £13.6 million ($17.6 million).

Following the U.K.’s decision to leave the European Union, and the consequent fall in the value of the pound, the group’s U.K. facilities — Pinewood Studios, Shepperton Studios and Pinewood Studio Wales — are likely to become even busier. “In the context of our business, the decline in the sterling exchange rate is undoubtedly positive for our international customers,” Ivan Dunleavy, Pinewood chief executive, said.

The E.U. exit may have “a limited impact on demand for the group’s facilities,” Pinewood said, but its exposure is “largely mitigated as its most significant customers are U.S. based,” and it has “a significant presence in a number of overseas markets.”

‘Pete’s Dragon’: First Clip of David Lowery’s Take on Classic Disney Adventure Teases Something Big

10 July 2016 10:58 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Disney’s upcoming “Pete’s Dragon” doesn’t just represent a fusion between the indie and blockbuster worlds because it’s directed by David Lowery. It also co-stars Robert Redford, who founded the Sundance Film Festival — which happens to be where Lowery’s “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” premiered in 2013. Disney has released the film’s first clip (below).

In it, Bryce Dallas Howard is looking over drawings on a wall when Redford enters the room and expresses disbelief that the title character, a semi-feral child who recently emerged from a nearby forest, could survive in the wild on his own for six years. How right you are, Robert — it’s almost as though the boy has a mythical friend out there.
