The three male leads, Charles S. Dutton, Rocky Carroll, and Carl Gordon had all recently worked together in the Broadway production of August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson." In fact Charles S. Dutton had originally wanted their other co-star, S. Epatha Merkerson, to play the part of Eleanor.
