This was actually an extension of the James Earl Jones series "Gabriel's Fire". It features James Earl Jones and Richard Crenna as two rather different private detectives. While the premise isn't exactly original, they played up their respective ages and skills using their various talents. Don Ameche played Richard Crenna's father and most episodes had either a running gag or a nice sense of humour.
