Trailer for Tim Allen’s directorial debut Crazy On The Outside

Well, at least it’s not Wild Hogs. It may not be far off, though. The film in question here is Crazy On The Outside, the directorial debut from funny man Tim Allen. That is unless you count “Loose Lips and Freudian Slips,” the episode of Home Improvement Tim directed back in 1999.

Bill Moseley Swims in Rogue River and Word on Prowl

11 December 2009 12:42 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

This scribe caught up with actor and all-around nice guy Bill Moseley(The Devil’s Rejects), who's adding yet another genre notch to his already prolific career in horror.

"I'm up here in Grants Pass, Oregon, shooting a sick and as yet uncovered movie called 'Rogue River'," the actor informed us. "It's directed by Jourdan McClure - remember that name! – and it stars me, Michelle Page (Sensored) , Michael (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) Rooker, and my real-life girlfriend (television actress) Lucinda Jenney."

Filming until December 20th, first-time filmmaker McClure is shooting from a script penned by screenwriters Kevin (Sensored) Haskin and Ryan Finnerty. Dread did some dredging of Rogue River, and here’s the upshot: The film revolves around the plight of Mara (played by Page), who, while scattering her father’s ashes, makes the acquaintance of a seemingly benign man named Jon (Moseley). Appearances are deceiving, »

Crazy On The Outside is the directorial debut of Tim Allen. Well, aside from one episode of Home Improvement. The movie stars Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta, Julie Bowen, J.K. Simmons, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Kelsey Grammer. What sort of story might Allen want to direct you might ask? In Crazy, Allen plays Tommy, who has just been released from jail after being locked up for three years. While trying to get his life together, obstacles keep getting in his way. 'North' Meets 'Groundhog Day' in New Comedy 'Hello, I Love You'

4 November 2009 10:04 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

And that's what you get when you combine a producer from The Passion of the Christ (Stephen McEveety) with a writer (David McFadzean) from Tim Allen's TV series "Home Improvement": complete and utter chaos. But when you combine a box office and critical disaster like North with the modern comedy classic Groundhog Day, there has to be some semblance of a decent comedy hidden in there right? That's the hope as THR reports that development on Hello, I Love You, a comedy about a teenager who wishes for a new family only to find herself waking up each successive day with a new and strange one, is progressing well. Sunu Gonera (Pride), seen in the photo above, will direct from a script by Kim Beyer-Johnson, and though there's probably some fun to be had with this concept, the same producing team also brought us the equally recycled and »

Heartthrob Smackdown: Leonardo DiCaprio vs. Robert Pattinson

4 November 2009 9:34 AM, PST | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Pattinson. Photographs by Brigitte Lacombe (DiCaprio) and Bruce Weber (Pattinson). "Not since Leo, circa Titanic, has a young actor been so aggressively beloved by 13-year-old girls worldwide," writes Evgenia Peretz in her Vanity Fair profile of Robert Pattinson (Twilight's Hot Gleaming, December 2009). Peretz is right—and I would know. I was one of those teenage girls who got caught up in the "Leo-mania" fan frenzy in the late 90s. The first copy of Vanity Fair I ever bought was the January 1998 issue with Leo on the cover. I hung Tiger Beat and Teen Bop posters of Leo on my bedroom walls. And after I saw Titanic in the movie theater six times, one of my friends and I even created a Leo Web site, at a time when you could only access the Internet via a dial-up modem. Sure, there were other Hollywood stars that set »

Tim Allen doesn’t let a sunny Saturday get to 7-month-old daughter Elizabeth! The funnyman kept his little one shaded in a hat and sunglasses while visiting Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in West Hollywood, Calif. over the weekend.

After Elizabeth’s birth in March, mom Jane Hadjuk Allen said,

“Not that we didn’t have an incredible life, but there’s more and our love is going to change, and now we have somebody else to love. Like every woman has ever said, you can’t believe how much you love this little infant.”

'Toy Story 3' Gets Kristen Schaal And Blake Clark, 'Toy Story' 3-D Double-Feature To Run 'A Little Longer'

13 October 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Late yesterday, Disney sent out a release linking to a video message from "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich. There is apparently much reason to celebrate around the Pixar/Disney Animation studios these days, as the 3-D theatrical re-launch of "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" in a double feature has been doing very well. So well in fact that the Mouse House has decided to extend the run, which was originally supposed to last for a brief two-week window.

This is great news. The first two "Toy Story" flicks are a lot of fun and all reports indicate that the 3-D upgrades are first rate. If you haven't seen them before, this is the best option for seeing them that's come along in quite some time. And if you have seen them... this is still the best way to watch them. Unkrich also had some news to share on the "Toy Story 3" front, »

Aaron Sorkin: Talker, walk with me

6 September 2009 5:06 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

This week, EW University takes a look at the people who helped shape the modern TV landscape. Today’s TV auteur is Aaron Sorkin, whose distinct voice pushed network comedies out of the ‘90s and network dramas into the White House. Class is now in session! When Sports Night premiered in 1998, it was met with critical praise, fanatical devotion on the part of its 10 million or so viewers (which at the time made it the 45th most-watched show), and a revived conversation about the future of the laughtrack for network comedies. Sports Night debuted with canned laughs, but it was so out of place that ABC couldn’t help but eventually side with Sorkin and the show’s fans. Out went the laughtrack, and in came an era where the differences between multicamera and single-camera comedies became normal TV fan knowledge, not just inside-baseball musings. Sports Night’s contemporaries were »

Whitney Houston Leads Us Down The Rabbit Hole: Wake-Up Video

3 September 2009 6:00 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Yesterday, the big buzz in the Newsroom surrounded Whitney Houston and her performance on yesterday's episode of "Good Morning America." Houston's run through four songs was equal parts amazing, confusing, cringe-inducing and impressive. It sparked a lot of conversation about Houston's career and the extreme peaks and valleys. As a result, we tapped into the deep MTV Networks tape archive to take a look at some of Houston's television highlights, and we stumbled on an amazing piece of tape: The 1995 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, which Houston hosted. It was an immediate nostalgia trip for most everybody in the office and reminded us of the existence of stars like Taran Noah Smith from "Home Improvement" and the Mowry twins from "Sister, Sister." It also featured some clearly tongue-in-cheek editing, most notably from whoever cut the package that introduced the "Favorite Movie Actress" category. Sally Field was nominated for her role in "Forrest Gump, »

Home Improvement: Show Creators Reunite for New ABC Sitcom

The three creators of ABC's very popular Home Improvement sitcom are back at work for the alphabet network.

The family sitcom ran for 204 episodes and stars Allen, Patricia Richardson, Zachery Ty Bryan, Taran Noah Smith, Richard Karn, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Earl Hindman.

During the successful eight season run of Home Improvement, Williams, Finestra and McFadzean and the show were nominated for Emmys three times.

The trio now has a new project with ABC. A family sitcom, the show revolves around a sports psychologist who's also the father of three kids. The Dad runs his office out of his home (ala Jason Seaver from Growing Pains) and has to find a way to balance his job with »

Home Improvement creators hoping to revitalize the family sitcom

31 August 2009 7:05 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Matt Williams has an impressive sitcom pedigree. He created the quintessential '90s sitcom with Roseanne. Then, with Carmen Finestra and David McFadzean alongside, he struck gold again with Tim Allen's Home Improvement. Now they're hoping lightning can strike twice (thrice?) with another take on the traditional family sitcom for ABC.

Once a television staple, the family sitcom has probably never seen leaner days than right now. But with the multi-camera format making a comeback, there's no better time to test the waters. This time, the family will be a sports psychologist who works out of his home, along with his three kids and presumably a wife.

The big difference between this project and Williams' other two successes is the lack of an established comedian at the center of it. One could easily argue that both Roseanne and Home Improvement were just expansions of the stage acts of their respective stars. »

Sherri Shepherd's splashdown set for October

14 August 2009 11:02 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Last week on The View, Sherri Shepherd showed off her new body, clad in a bathing suit, and now it seems there was more to her remake than just good health and looking better. Shepherd's Lifetime sitcom, Sherri, will premiere on October 5, and you just know it's her intention to score a big time success. Lifetime has had this in the works for months. This is the network's first fully-owned sitcom, so you gotta believe the net has a lot of faith in Sherri.

The show is based on Shepherd's stand-up, which is the same formula that worked for Roseanne, Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Tim Allen (Home Improvement) and a half-dozen other comics, and the exposure Sherri gets from The View won't hurt at all.

The same demographic that watches The View tunes in to Lifetime shows like Drop Dead Diva and Army Wives. Oh, and don't forget the Lifetime movies. »

The California Clean Tech Open, often regarded as one of the top business plan competitions in the world, announced the semi-finalists yesterday for its 2009 competition. 50 early-stage startups were chosen to compete in the categories of Water & Waste, Energy Efficiency, Green Building, Renewable Energy, Smart Power and Transportation. Winners receive $50,000 in cash, $50,000 for business services and a chance for funding--along with the benefit of the Clean Tech Open's track record for selecting successful companies like Cool Earth Solar (2006 runner up) and BuildFast (2007 winner). The top five finalists in each category won't be announced until the fall, but we've culled a list of some of our favorites from the semi-finalist group.

1. Armageddon Energy We've already written about this enterprising startup, which makes prefab teflon-coated rooftop solar panels that take only a few minutes to set up. Armageddon recently completed a series of prototypes and expects commercial production to begin in a year. »

DVD Review: ‘Sports Night’ – The Complete Series 10th Anniversary Edition

17 June 2009 12:40 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

There are few television shows that hold my interest past the pilot episode. When they do, they usually get cancelled because most networks can’t seem to identify quality programs without the help of their woefully misguided Neilsen system. In rare instances, such as the Family Guy and Futurama resurrections, a fantastic show gets canceled, then does so well on DVD, the network is forced to place it’s tail squarely between its legs and bring the show back to life. Sports Night was not one of these shows.

The year is 1998. ABC has Home Improvement, NYPD Blue, Ellen, Dharma and Drew. On Tuesday September 22, they premiere a little show-within-a-show called Sports Night.  The ensemble cast includes a few heavyweights, and several actors who earned their street cred long after Sports Night was running on Comedy Central at 3am.

The show centers around the cast and crew of a sports »

Obscure Pa film to find: 1979's The Ravagers starring Richard Harris

9 June 2009 8:04 AM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

The Ravagers is another in a long line of Hollywood backed Pa films from the 70s that, despite sporting some pretty big names, just seems to have disappear off the face of the earth. That's right folks. No DVD. Nadda. There was a VHS copy released in England ages ago but other than that the film has become something of a Pa legend over the years and a real coveted item for collectors.

The quality of the film itself is up there with another of the era, Ultimate Warrior which, like The Ravagers, starred big names like Max Von Sydow and Yul Brenner. A little dated maybe, but still great fun. That film was recently releases on DVD as part of a double feature with Montgomery Tully's Battle Beneath the Earth so I still have hopes that we'll see The Ravagers hit home video one day.

Ask the Flying Monkey! (May 20, 2009)

20 May 2009 6:58 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Ask the Monkey! (Please include your city and state and/or country.)

Q: I was always under the impression that Dom DeLuise, like other 1970s B-level comic figures such as Paul Lynde, Rip Taylor, and Charles Nelson Reilly, was a not-very-closeted gay man. I was surprised, then, that when he died last week, there was no mention of that in any article I saw. I did read that he had a long marriage to a woman and several grown children (certainly not proof of heterosexuality, but nonetheless). Was I just misinformed? -- Thomasina, Alabama

Dom DeLuise

A: You and the Flying Monkey both. I also always simply assumed DeLuise was gay, so I was as surprised as you were to read last week that he’d been married for 44 years and had three children.

That said – and I’m not necessarily saying anything about DeLuise, »

Your Next Home Improvement: Diy Solar Panels From Armageddon Energy

15 May 2009 8:35 AM, PDT | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

digg_url = 'http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/ariel-schwartz/sustainability/armageddon-energy-introduces-plug-and-play-solar-panels'; digg_skin = 'compact'; Rooftop solar panel installation is often a time-consuming and complicated process, but Armageddon Energy's new prefab panels are practically roof-ready when they come out of the box.

A solar "clover"--enough to provide 400 watts of power--is made up of three 10 to 12 pound silicon hexagonal panels, a triangular frame and a micro-inverter. The panels can be easily connected with a series of uncomplicated tab and slots. Then all that's left is for a professional, or mechanically-inclined homeowner, to secure the clovers to the roof, angle them towards the sun, and plug them into the home power system. According to Armageddon, the process only takes a few minutes.

Armageddon's solar panels are significantly lighter than traditional 40-pound silicon-panels, mainly because the solar cells are coated in Teflon instead of glass. At $6 per watt, the panels produce power cheaply, too--that's »

Imho "The 7th Annual TV Land Awards": Was that real, or was I Pufnstuff?

27 April 2009 8:59 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

The Seventh Annual TV Land Awards aired last night on ... well, TV Land, and it was a gay couch potato's dream come true. It had a thirtieth anniversary tribute to the classic nighttime soap Knots Landing (and a warmly received marriage equality shout-out by the show's creator David Jacobs), a typically adept hosting job by Neil Patrick Harris (whose Twilight Zone-ish opening musical number can be seen here), and a tribute to Sid & Marty Krofft that ranks as the greatest ten minutes of TV since Andra's freak-out on Boy Meets Boy.

Unfortunately, it also featured some "meh" moments. There were tributes to a couple of shows I never watched (Home Improvement, Magnum P.I.) and the inexplicable tribute to Two and a Half Men as a "Future Classic".

But all in all it was a great night, and we've got some of the highlights to scorch your senses ...
