Storyline

Dwight Davis, a widower and grammar school principal, has the task of raising his three sons, along with the help of his wacky father Gunny. After the series moved from ABC to CBS, the oldest son and his friend were dropped and Dwight's sister was added. Also off the show was Dwight's love interest, Cosmo, who left to join a convent. Added as well was Skinner, a son of some of Dwight's college pals who moved in. It was explained Skinner's parents were psychologists working in Latin America. Also the oldest son was said to have become a foreign exchange student. Appearing occasionally was Dwight's love interest Erika. Written by Tony Meier <discokid@aol.com>

A shame it was cancelled!
16 January 2002 | by (Germantown, TN) – See all my reviews

One of my most prized homemade VHS tapes is a compilation of 7 or 8 Davis Rules episodes from 1991-1992. What a great show! Set in the Seattle area, the stories incorporated aspects of Northwest life that made the area seem very attractive to someone from West Tennessee!

The chemistry among the characters seemed so relaxed, understated and, therefore, real. Having Bonnie Hunt and Jonathan Winters in the same show is just too good to miss. Unfortunately, it was perhaps off beat enough that not enough people appreciated it. You can keep "Friends" and "Seinfeld"..."Davis Rules" was much better!
