Doug, convinced that he's trapped in a sitcom, has been seeing Dr. Bialik, a fictionalized version of Mayim Bialik played by Bialik herself and inspired by her real life PhD in Neuroscience. In this episode, Dr. Bialik's hopes to cure Doug by bringing him in for a group therapy session with her old "Blossom" castmates Jenna Von Oy and Michael Stoyanov, who play themselves. Joey Lawrence, who played Joey on "Blossom", wasn't available, so actor Gary Shapiro assumed the role of "fake Joey." The reason for this specific connection is that the executive producer of "Til Death", Don Reo, also created "Blossom".
