I love this film so much! This is was during a time before Wuxia took over HK cinema. The fighting in this film is superb. it shows realistic blows and actual physical limitation instead of the wire fu we're so used to now. They also used Sanshou instead of tai chi or wushu.
The theme is about friendship and trust and leadership. The film kind of plays out like a slice of life anime. It's just their time in the military and them learning to overcome obstacles while they get put into hard predicaments. That is, until the last act of the film when they get put up against some really life or death odds.
During a practice expedition up in the mountains. The two alpha leaders battle it out on who should be leading the group. Then they come up against a terrorist group who then threatens their livelihood.
