Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon – The Festive Edition

5 December 2012 5:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

We have all seen the adverts lately – you know, the ones where film and TV’s Kevin Bacon cleverly satirises the game that bears his name. In case you are not aware, it involves getting from one random person, via ‘six degrees of separation’, to Kevin Bacon. Well, as it is the season to be jolly and all, Thn thought it appropriate to attempt to link the film star with the main man himself, Santa Clause. So without further adieu…

Santa Claus:

The big guy in red has been imitated more times than Tommy Cooper. And just like that, he’s on screen again whether it’s Leslie Nielsen, Richard Attenborough or Dan Aykroyd you can bet he’ll bring a smile to your face – even if for all the wrong reasons (I’m talking to you Mr Aykroyd). What would Christmas be like without those rosy red cheeks and that large, »

Blu-ray Review: Southern Comfort

Southern Comfort

Stars: Keith Carradine, Powers Boothe, Fred Ward, Franklyn Seales, T.K. Carter, Lewis Smith, Peter Coyote, Alan Autry, Brion James, Sonny Landham | Written by Michael Kane, Walter Hill, David Giler | Directed by Walter Hill

There is something about Walter Hill’s style of storytelling that just gets me.  I’m a big fan of The Warriors, even though it took me long enough to finally see the film.  Once I finally got to see it though it turned into one of my favourite films.  Southern Comfort is a film very much like The Warriors, written and directed by Hill it very much mirrors the style with a group of men out of their element and fighting for survival, though the city and the bayou are two very different “jungles”.

When out on a training exercise in the Louisiana swamp a squad of National Guard soldiers arrogantly decide to steal »

CSI Review: Three Point Shot

8 November 2012 12:17 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

In only our second glimpse of the Russell family, "Pick and Roll" delivered some good quality time with Db’s son Charlie as he became the prime suspect in his coach’s murder.

Okay, we all knew there was no way that Charlie had killed the coach. Besides how could we not suspect his wife Linda, played by Alexie Gilmore (who I loved in the short lived show New Amsterdam), when Hodges confirmed a high-heel imprint at the scene.?!? Which did beg the question: how did he fit in those heels?

Aside from Linda, there was something about Vanessa that raised my suspicions. I want to say it was the questions she asked at dinner, but in reality it was realizing that a girl as attractive as her with her brains was dating a jock like Charlie.

Yes, I know it sounds mean to say, but they were very different people socially and emotionally. »

When Comedy meets Horror (part five)

31 October 2012 8:27 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The prior four articles of the good and ugly in comedy horror, all of it was in the run down to this final part. We’ve looked at Frank Henenlotter, Joe Dante, and an unfathomable number of pratfalls, puns, sarcastic one liners and gore, gore, gore. If you’re favourite comedy horror hasn’t appeared, tell us what it is in the comments section below. Maybe a variation on this article will appear in 12 months with some of those omissions included.

Part One

Part Two

Part Three

Part Four

Now to the meat of the matter, what are the greatest films that combine both comedy and horror?

Wallace & Gromit And The Curse Of The Were-rabbit

Wallace & Gromit made their debut feature length with one of best horror homages in many a year. Maybe that’s a biased viewpoint as a Brit, Wallace and his pet dog can do no wrong on these shores. »

13 September 2012 3:05 PM, PDT | Celebsology | See recent Celebsology news »

Okay, so this is probably the coolest thing we've heard about all day. You know one of our favorite actors Kevin Bacon that's been a part of films like Tremors, Mystic River, Footloose and is now appearing in the new Fox show The Following? Well, it turns out that experiment of 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' can turn into a time waster for you workers out there. Its simple: Google an actor's name with the phrase "Bacon Number" and you can instantly find out how many degrees that celebrity is away from the huge actor. It even gives you a run down on how they are connected.

Yep, mind officially Blown.

Here's some of the numbers we found out:

Channing Tatum- 2

Kyra Sedgwick- 1 (duh)

Fred Ward Joins the Cast of Two Guns with Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington

25 July 2012 8:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Just last month, we brought you the news when James Marsden (Red Machine) joined the cast of Universal Pictures forthcoming adaptation of 2 Guns, as as a naval commander, opposite Mark Wahlberg (Contraband) and Denzel Washington (Safe House).

Now, Variety reports that Fred Ward (30 Minutes or Less, Tremors) has joined the cast of director Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) adaptation of Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco‘s comic series as a top-ranking U.S. Navy admiral.

Boom! Studios Synopsis for 2 Guns:

A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score — considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t »

Fred Ward Joins Denzel Washington And Mark Walhberg In 2 Guns

23 July 2012 8:35 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Based on Steven Grant's comic book, 2 Guns is an upcoming action movie starring Denzel Washington and Mark Walhberg. It's fitting that the two actors are finally making a film together since they've kind of become kings of the generic thriller, with this year's Contraband and Safe House serving as perfect examples. Oddly enough, this actioner also combines the latter's cinematographer, Oliver Wood, with the former's director, Baltasar Kormakur, so if you liked both of those films, 2 Guns could be a dream come true. Universal has assembled a pretty good cast to support Washington and Walhberg, including Paula Patton, Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton, James Marsden and, according to Variety, Fred Ward is in the mix as well. Ward was last seen in Ruben Fleischer's 30 Minutes or Less but, for me, he'll always be Earl from Tremors or Gus Grissom from The Right Stuff. The gruff and grizzled acting »

'2 Guns' Recruits 'Tremors' Actor Fred Ward

23 July 2012 8:00 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Those tremors you're feeling? That's the sensation one feels when they learn that Fred Ward has been cast in a new action movie.

The "Tremors" actor (now do you see what I did up there? Boy, is it going to be a long week!) has joined the cast of "2 Guns," the Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington-starring action flick based on the Boom! Studios comic book, reports Variety.

"2 Guns" focuses on a Navy Seal operative and a DEA agent, both of them undercover and both of them tasked with stealing millions of bucks from the CIA. During their assignment, they learn that they're both being double-crossed by outside forces, and they're forced to go up against deadly enemies who will do whatever they have to to get their hands on the cash.

Washington and Wahlberg are joined by an impressive array of actors including James Marsden, Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton and Paula Patton. »

Casting Bits: Robocop, 2 Guns, Red 2

21 July 2012 9:14 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Three bits of movie casting news today… The first has Fred Ward (“Tremors” and my personal favorite, “Joe Dirt”) joining the cast of “Contraband” director Baltasar Kormakur’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the comic book “2 Guns”. Ward will play “a top-ranking U.S. Navy admiral.” Joe Dirt would be so proud of daddy right about now. “2 Guns” will star Mark “Good Vibrations” Wahlberg and Denzel “The Denzeliest” Washington as a Navy Seal and a DEA agent, respectively, who go undercover, but must put aside their differences when they’re tricked into stealing millions from the CIA. Oops. Speaking of comic book, “Captain America’s” Neal McDonough is in talks to join the geriatric cast of the action-comedy “Red 2″. No word on who McDonough, who was last seen terrorizing one U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens on TV’s “Justified”, will be playing in the Dean Parisot-directed sequel to 2010′s surprise hit movie. »

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Interview: Gale Anne Hurd Discusses The Walking Dead Season Three, Reflects on The Terminator Franchise and More!

16 July 2012 11:44 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

With more than 30 years in the filmmaking world behind her, writer and producer Gale Anne Hurd has been one of the creative forces behind some of the genre world's most beloved projects.

Hurd quickly rose to fame in Hollywood after penning and producing the 1984 sci-fi/action classic The Terminator; soon after, she produced several more projects alongside James Cameron including Aliens, The Abyss, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day as well as countless projects like Bad Dreams, Alien Nation, Tremors, The Relic, Dante's Peak, Armageddon and the underrated cult comedy Dick.

Hurd's days now are consumed by zombies as she is currently one of the executive producers on AMC's wildly successful series "The Walking Dead." During the recent 2012 San Diego Comic-Con convention, Dread Central had the opportunity to sit down for an exclusive chat with Hurd. During our interview we of course spoke to Hurd in-depth about "The Walking Dead": »

“Maleficent” Has Found Its Prince

31 May 2012 1:35 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Brenton Thwaites, a young Australian actor, has been cast as the prince in Robert Stromberg’s upcoming reimagination of Sleeping Beauty told from the villain’s perspective, according to Deadline. The Disney film has quite a fun collection of cast members, including Angelina Jolie (Wanted) as Maleficent, Elle Fanning (Super as the princess Brenton will have to woo, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as the princess’ father, and Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter), Lesley Manville and Juno Temple as fairies.

Apparently, Brenton Thwaites cut his teeth on Australian soap Home And Away, which has such luminaries as Heath Ledger, Chris Hemsworth, Guy Pearce and Naomi Watts in the show’s past (Slashfilm). That seems to bode well of the hiring, and due to the cast and decent concept, I’m onboard. It’ll be Stromberg’s directorial debut, but he’s cut his teeth on special effects in Hollywood since the 1980s, »

ABC Announces Fall Schedule – Get A Peek At What’s Coming

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.

Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

It’s tricky to get a solid feel »

Exclusive: Producer Gale Anne Hurd Talks The Walking Dead Season 2 Finale And The Pacing Of Season 3

25 March 2012 8:31 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Recently, I had the chance to speak to producer Gale Anne Hurd as we did a light retrospective on her career. Most people these days, probably know her best for The Walking Dead but her success story goes much farther back to The Terminator, Aliens, Tremors, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and even a few comic book movies such as The Incredible Hulk and The Punisher. In looking at her career, we talked about her exposure to comics at an early age [she’s a Marvel girl], her start under the legendary Roger Corman and I even had a little fun asking her about who would direct and star in a Gale Anne Hurd Wonder Woman movie. We also spoke about her production company, Valhalla Entertainment and the plethora of projects they currently have in development. The majority of the interview is still in the editing bay but »
