  • Stanley Cox is a shy, illiterate short-order cook who has never taken a chance at love. Iris King is a newly widowed factory worker who has vowed never to love again.   • An illiterate cook at a company cafeteria tries for the attention of a newly widowed woman. As they get to know each other, she slowly discovers his inability to read and write.
