Last year's He's Just Not That Into You - a little film with a huge cast - seems to have set a standard for Hollywood's tentpole Valentine's Day output so in 2010 we're going to get the rather - do we dare say it - unimaginatively titled Valentine's Day from Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall... and the trailer has just been released over at First Showing.
With a cast list that just goes on and on (see below) and on and on (with Julia Roberts wedged in for good measure) we have to be honest and admit that we haven't got even the foggiest idea of what it's all about, and though the trailer focusses on the blithely unsentimental and cynical characters, the unloved ones who aren't having a very good (valentine's) day, we're certain that's just promotional miss-direction - this is going to be horribly saccharine, and very very annoying. »
Check out a brand new trailer, poster and photos from New Line’s upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day.”
“Valentine’s Day” follows the lives of couples breaking up and making up on the most holiest day of them all.
Garry Marshall has put together an all star cast including Bradley Cooper, Patrick Dempsey, Taylor Lautner, Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts, Topher Grace, Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Shirley MacLaine, Carter Jenkins, George Lopez and many more.

Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift are starring as high school sweethearts in "Valentine's Day", and a peek at how they are so into one another has been teased in the film's new trailer. Coming out courtesy of Moviefone, the promo video captures the characters the two Taylors portray declaring their love to one another in an interview with local news.
The trailer also manages to reel in a look at other characters and scenes. Ashton Kutcher's Reed Bennet popping the question to Jessica Alba's Morley Clarkson, Emma Roberts's Grace Smart telling Shirley MacLaine and Hector Elizondo's Estelle and Edgar Paddington she is going to have sex, and Jennifer Garner's Julia Fitzpatrick having a date with a ten-year-old are only few of the scenes unveiled.
Did you like the movie Love Actually? Are you a fan of Ashton Kutcher, Kathy Bates, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Jessicas Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Shirley MacLaine, Patrick Dempsey, Topher Grace, Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Eric Dane, Hector Elizondo, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts or Julia Roberts?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you’re probably going to want to see director Garry Marshall’s (Pretty Woman) new movie Valentine’s Day next February 12th. That’s because the movie is following the playbook of Love Actually and loading itself up with tons of movie stars and telling the story over the course of one day. It just so happens the story takes place on Valentine’s Day.
As someone who really enjoyed Love Actually, I’m very curious about this movie. Also, with a cast like this, how can I not be curious? »

"Young love: full of promise, full of hope, ignorant of reality." Warner Brothers has debuted the full-length theatrical trailer (via Moviefone) for Valentine's Day, the ensemble romantic comedy that's just like Love Actually but set around Valentine's Day instead of Christmas. The cast includes just about everyone: Bradley Cooper, Taylor Lautner, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts, Topher Grace, Patrick Dempsey, Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Shirley MacLaine, Carter Jenkins, and George Lopez. This year's Golden Globes had some surprises and let-downs for everyone, but one of the stranger picks (in my opinion, anyway) was a nod for the Avatar theme by Leona Lewis, "I See You." Like it or not, this pop confection has become quite the ear worm and even has worn some fans of the film down to the point where they like it. (Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome?)
Coincidentally, James Cameron's Titanic also served up a seriously damaging, and perhaps more potent, ear worm in the form of Céline Dion's Oscar-winning song "My Heart Will Go On," written by James Horner and Will Jennings. Like it or not, Dion's soaring vocals stuck with you long after leaving the theater, probably because it was being played everywhere.

Given that Adam Sandler did so well with fake marriage before, in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," the comic actor is heading to the non-altar once again. However, this time Sandler is getting a mock wife rather than a mock husband. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Aniston may costar as his stand-in bride in a romantic comedy titled "Pretend Wife."
"Chuck and Larry" director Dennis Dugan will likely make this his seventh collaboration with Sandler, following the upcoming "Grown Ups." The basic plot for "Pretend Wife" has been uncovered by Pajiba.com, and it sounds a bit odd, kind of like a romantic twist on Lars von Trier's "The Boss of it All."
Apparently Sandler's character is so afraid of commitment that he tells his girlfriend that he's married, with children. His game gets complicated though when the 22-year-old girl of his dreams threatens to leave »

Julia Roberts has been named the new face of cosmetics firm Lancome.
The Pretty Woman star will be the 2010 "ambassadress" for the company.
Announcing the news on Friday, Lancome president Youcef Nabi said, "By her remarkable personality and career, Julia Roberts is an emblematic woman of her time. Her exceptional talent, her radiance and her strong commitments, perfectly echo Lancome’s values.
"We are convinced she will embody the brand in the most sublime way possible." »
I don't think Steven Soderbergh has ever missed quite as badly as this: a shallow, negligent piece of work, badly acted and casually put together
With a film-maker as prolific and fluent as Steven Soderbergh, there are bound to be some misses to go with the hits. But I don't think Soderbergh has ever missed quite as badly as this: a shallow, negligent piece of work, badly acted and casually put together.

Chelsea is in a committed relationship with Chris (Chris Santos), a personal trainer who doesn't mind what she does, but is one day horrified when Chelsea announces that she has formed an attachment to one of her clients, and is going away with him for a few days. Richard Gere has been told that he faces a fine of up to $$50,000 for cutting down some trees. The Pretty Woman star, who lives in Pound Ridge near New York with his actress wife Carey Lowell, apparently failed to seek the appropriate permission before having 200 trees removed from his estate. His neighbour is quoted by the New York Post as saying: "This is a town where money isn't an issue. What matters are good manners and caring about the community. People have been supportive of him, but I'm not sure what he was (more) »

Ralph Macchio had Reseda. Jaden Smith gets the Great Wall of China. Assuming the studio didn't commission a body double (you know, like on the Pretty Woman poster), that's Will Smith's 11-year-old son showing major flexibility in a scene from the upcoming remake of The Karate Kid. In the action drama, due in theaters next year, Jackie Chan takes on the role of the sage Mr. Han, who will teach Jaden's Dre a thing or two, not only about martial artistry...but about life. Of course, watching the still baby-faced Chan open a can of whoop-ass on the bullies for the first time won't be quite as much fun as seeing the far tamer-looking Pat Morita do the same in »
Hollywood actor Richard Gere is facing a $50,000 (£31,250) fine for allegedly chopping down 200 trees without permission.
The Pretty Woman star opened a bed-and-breakfast in a restored farmhouse in Westchester County, New York in February - but he's come under fire from locals after remodelling the 14 acres of land.
Gere and his wife Carey Lowell are accused of felling nearly 200 trees to create a horse paddock at their country retreat - a move which has left their neighbours fuming.
R.J. Marx, editor of the local Bedford Record-Review newspaper, tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "He rehabilitated an old, decaying piece of property and people were very happy about that. He's very popular in the community. His son plays Little League here. (But) the feeling is that he acted a bit precipitously in clearing the trees. People are somewhat disappointed that he didn't follow procedure.
"Rather than seeking the proper channels and permits, he hired someone to cut them down. He's generally a good neighbour. It was out of character. This is a town where money isn't an issue. What matters are good manners and caring about the community. People have been supportive of him, but I'm not sure what he was thinking."
The publication reports Gere is facing a $250 (£156) fine for each tree felled, meaning he could be charged around $50,000 (£31,250) if local authorities find he created the clearing without the proper permits. Gere is reportedly in discussions with officials about replanting some of the trees. »
Is Bella Swan an independent and sort of daring young lovesick renegade…or a doormat? A good role model...or a godawful role model? Or should she be considered a role model at all? And what of the Twilight saga itself: Is it liberating the fantasy life of a new generation of young women by inviting them to wallow in the kind of stormy-skies, trembling-damsel romanticism that has been a staple of popular fiction from Wuthering Heights onward? Or is it setting back the holy cause of women's enlightenment by 50 years? These and other questions were debated, with rude and furious passion, »

Actress Sasha Grey states that her name was dually inspired by The Kinsey Scale of sexuality and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. It is Dorian Gray I recall as I sit in a tiny screening room with the crisp, Vogue editorial, beauty of The Girlfriend Experience unfurling on the screen before me. Utter lack of affect in the face of unspeakable actions. Is prostitution unspeakable? Perhaps, at least, it is the latter-day love that dare not speak its name.
When Steven Soderbergh selected Grey as his muse for this Sex, Lies and Videotape for an Apprentice generation, speculation was rife (and ribald) that The Girlfriend Experience would be as blue as the economic mood upon its release. Pleasingly nothing could be further from the truth.

One of the shrewdest Oscarologists on the planet is Tariq Khan of Fox News, who often generously shares his views of current and past derbies with Gold Derby readers. Here he takes a nostalgic look at the past two decades, offering his take on the most competitive derbies. Words below are Tariq's. Thanks, m'friend!
We’ve often discussed those Oscar races that seem just too close to call . . . where it’s clear (or at least seems clear) that the eventual winner will nab the Oscar with only a few more votes than his or her nearest competitor. While we can never really know for sure (unless we get one of those top jobs at the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers,) we do have some idea of what may have been the closest races in Oscar history. Allow me to present what I believe were the 10 closest acting races over the course of the past 20 years. »
