Trivia

During production of the chase scene, the fuel cell (a small gas canister for stunt driving to reduce chance of explosion) for the Taxi didn't arrive on time. The stunt proceeded despite this, and the gas tank caught fire from sparks generated by the wheel rims scraping the pavement. The stunt driver fled from the flaming car, the fire was doused, and the film was briefly halted from production. See more »

Goofs

When Riley asks Harry about Jack's murder, Harry describes touching the killer's hand and being reminded of the kind of "cold dead flesh" he was buried beneath while fighting overseas. But Cordell was clearly wearing white police gloves at the time. See more »

The second "Maniac Cop" is even trashier than the first one
22 December 2007 | by (Worcester, MA) – See all my reviews

The first "Maniac Cop" was an enjoyable piece of trash, but this film manages to outdo it in most departments. Its more over-the-top, more violent, and even more entertaining. Sure, it doesn't have much of the great Bruce Campbell, but lets not lie to ourselves - he wasn't really given too much to do in the first film. This is an extremely mindless and illogical film (which is a bit surprising, because Larry Cohen is well known as one of the most subversive and intelligent screenwriters in exploitation cinema). However, I doubt most fans of the vintage schlock would have it any other way.

In addition to being more enjoyable, the technical aspects of this film are an improvement over the first. William Lustig's direction is very quickly paced. This is a tight and taut little b-flick that gets its punchy job done. Also, the acting, while not exactly deep, is a lot less wooden than the first time around. Robert Davi proves himself to be a very capable man. This is just the icing on the cake for a series of entertaining set pieces and wonderfully over-the-top moments. "Maniac Cop 2" will probably be forgotten about once its over, but its an entertaining diversion for b-movie fans. (6/10)
