A TV Movie Reunion
26 March 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

After the show has aired its final episode in 1986,the Love Boat is back four years afterwards with a TV reunion movie entitled,The Love Boat:A Valentine Voyage.Four of the regular mainstays are back namely:Gavin McLeod as Capt Stubbing, Bernie Kopell as Doctor Adam Bicker, Ted Lange as Isaac, who is now promoted as purser from bartender and Jill Whelan as Vicki, the Captain's daughter. The TV movie is filmed on location in the Caribbean.

Following the format of a typical episode,it has numerous guest stars that includes Ted Shackleford, Shanna Reed, Joe Regalbuto, Tom Bosley, Julia Duffy, Steve Bond, and wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Also,it has multiple romantic and comic story lines that involves a the story is about a gang of jewel thieves who took advantage of the passengers' valuables while they went outside the shore,a detective chasing after them, a TV star and a very pregnant wife of the ship's chef.

There is nothing really special about this TV movie except a TV reunion of sorts for most of the cast of Love Boat.Obviously,Fred Grandy wasn't in it as he was busy in Washington as Iowa Congressman while Lauren Tewes was fired from the show after the seventh season. But despite of their absence,it still provided the same fun and entertainment that it used to provide. As for the producers,it was probably some sort of another comeback and try its luck as to whether fans did miss the show or not. They probably were hoping for another big market share just like when the first two Love Boat TV movies were shown.Obviously,American viewers have already moved on from escapist and lightweight entertainment that shows like this are known for.It definitely served the viewers of the 70's and the 80's but it no longer had the magic it used to have for the 90's. But to its credit, Love Boat is still shown in 93 other countries as this review is being written.
