Blu-ray Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2

21 April 2016 3:54 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Recognizing that it’s more than likely an unpopular opinion, I need to come clean and confess that I prefer Tobe Hooper’s 1986 sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2, to its predecessor, which I’m also quick to point out is an unparalleled masterpiece of the genre. This has everything to do with personal taste. Tobe Hooper is one of my favorite filmmakers of all-time, and while I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen his 1974 classic, I probably revisit Part 2 every year. It’s one of my very favorite horror movies.

The third film in a trilogy Hooper made for Cannon Films in the 1980s (the other two being the brilliantly bonkers Lifeforce and Hooper’s remake of Invaders From Mars, released just a couple of months before TCM2 in ’86), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 was the movie the director had to »

Back in February, we reported that a number of genre icons were coming together for a new film entitled Death House, which has been dubbed The Expendables of Horror. At the time, we didn't known when production would begin, or if a release date had been set. Today, we have word that principal photography is about to wrap, and the filmmakers are eyeing a late 2016 or early 2017 release date. Photos from this horror-thriller have also been released, giving us our first look at legends such as Kane Hodder, Dee Wallace and many more.

April 19th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Stuff

18 April 2016 5:43 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

This third week of April has some exciting home entertainment offerings for us genre fans, including the special edition releases of two cult classics I adore, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Stuff. An indie film I’ve been hearing about for a while now, Grimewave, also makes its way to DVD this Tuesday and while it may not be traditional horror, Oscar-winner The Revenant certainly has enough badassery contained within its cinematic frames to be worthy of mentioning this week, and it arrives on both Blu-ray and DVD on April 19th.

Other notable releases this week include Smothered (which features a ton of horror icons and was directed by John Schneider of Smallville and Dukes of Hazzard fame), 15 Till Midnight, Classroom 6, Ip Man 3, German Angst and She Wolf Rising.

Original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Set Becomes a BBQ Resort

30 March 2016 3:50 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The 1974 horror movie classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been terrifying fans for more than four decades. Those looking for a new way to experience this classic may be in luck soon. Last year, Ohio businessman Roy Rose bought the Last Chance Gas Station, which served as the fictional Gulf Oil gas station and BBQ restaurant in the movie. The businessman is planning to turn this rundown gas station into a hororr-themed BBQ restaurant. And he recently shared some progress on the restaurant's new Facebook page, along with the following message.

"We are restoring the Smoker House saved as much original wood as possible, added some from another barn that had fallen down...Put concrete underneath ... This time The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Gas Station is being restored in a correct manor.....Looks Awesome......Let me tell ya chainsaw fans...."

According to The Guardian, Roy Rose bought the property at 1073 Highway 304 in Bastrop, »

Demonic Creatures and Chainsaws Revved Up For Scream Factory’s April Lineup!!

10 March 2016 3:05 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

We previously reported that the gang at Scream Factory are about to make the month of April an awesome one, with the 4/12 double feature of Anthony Perkins-led films Destroyer and Edge Of Sanity (link). Personally, that alone is reason enough to celebrate, but any respectable horror fan knows that the Sf crew likes to go big. Corin Hardy (the upcoming reboot of The Crow)’s The Hallow is arriving April 5th, with the tale of a man up against a demonic entity, loosened from the wilderness around it.  We had a short chat with Hardy last year, and it’s definitely enough to get genre fans excited for this Scream Factory/IFC Midnight team-up release.

8 actors who went the extra mile for their movies

Freezing conditions. Dangerous stunts. Here are a few examples of actors who've suffered through some high-profile film roles...

When DiCaprio lifted his Best Actor trophy at this year's Oscars, we're surprised he didn't scream, "It's about damn time I won one of these. I slept in a goddamn hollowed-out horse for you people!"

Ah yes, the hollowed-out horse. But there was also the scene where DiCaprio had to eat a raw bison liver, or the sundry moments where the actor had to crawl in and out of freezing cold lakes and rivers. At a time when whizzy computer effects can make the impossible look possible, the cast and crew of The Revenant decided to take a decidedly analogue approach to making their period survival drama, with the long, arduous shoot taking place in ice-cold parts of Canada, the Us and Argentina.

Grim though the experience of making The Revenant was, »

Harker’s Hits: February 15!

Despite Deadpool smashing all box-office records in every corner of the world ($132.7 million in Three Freaking Days — and that’s just in North America!), that’s not the only news that broke this Valentine’s weekend.

In case you, too, were ensconced in a Ryan Reynolds bubble since Friday, take a gander at these other developments:

• Am I dreaming?! News broke this weekend that Death House is a thing. With a script by the late Gunnar Hansen (a.k.a. Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Leatherface) and Harrison Smith (director of Camp Dread) the flick is set to star a who’s who of horror: Robert Englund (Freddy — obviously — from A Nightmare On Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Jason from Friday The 13th), Doug Bradley (Pinhead from Hellraiser), Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling), Barbara Crampton (Re-animator), and Danny Trejo (well … everything), among others. Horror Movies to get the Expendables treatment in ‘Death House’

15 February 2016 2:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Death House is a new in-development horror film that appears to borrow from the Expendables formula when it comes to casting. The film will see many icons of the genre combine to tell, what sounds like an exceptionally twisted tale.

The Death House is the Area 51 of evil…A subterranean government facility that hold humanity’s worst on nine levels. Hell, Dante’s ninth level, holds the Five Evils… the “dark stars” of Death House. These individuals are so heinous they can never walk among society again. They may also be supernatural.

Agents Toria Boon and Jae Novak have their own dark pasts, arriving at Death House to tour its levels and observe its denizens first-hand as well as the medical and mental experiments of Drs. Eileen Fletcher and Karen Redmane. Their depraved experiments date back to the Nazi doctors of WWII.
