Trivia

Roger Daltrey had originally intended to produce a film about the Kray twins life after acquiring the rights to John Pearson's book "The Profession Of Violence". His intended casting was Hywel Bennett as Ronnie and Gerry Sundquist as Reggie, with Billy Murray as Charlie and Jean Alexander as the Kray's mother Violet. The idea was abandoned however once the Peter Medak version was announced. See more »

Determism rules, OK?
9 November 2015 | by (whakamaru) – See all my reviews

Determinism is the idea that almost all of what we do is determined (controlled) by the DNA we get from our parents, and that we don't really have free will. I kept thinking of this while watching "The Krays".

Here are twins, despicable criminals, ruthless, sadistic, unscrupulous, brutal, totally unlikeable. Yet, their mother, aunt and grandmother seem to be good people. Their father is a bit of a useless no-hoper, but not too bad. So, where has this rotten DNA come from? Mutation? God? The Krays live in a part of London where intimidation and protection gangs are rife. They get involved. In a brief appearance by Jimmy Nail, he tells them that people will pay to be sort-of protected. From there they expand, soon they have a night-club, and later, three. But violence and awfulness are never far away.

The women in this movie are the only bright spots. Kate Hardie as the unfortunate Frances, wife of Reg Kray is outstanding, otherwise, it is boring, dreary and simply awful. I don't know why anyone bothered to write and make it, and I don't want to rate it.
