  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: "John Kimble" is an odd name for an Austrian immigrant, which the character is and discusses at length. Kimble is a Scots or Welsh name, a variant of Campbell. (It could be assumed that the name was Americanized upon immigration.)

  • Continuity: Phoebe's position after being hit by the car after the fire at the school.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: Cullen Crisp Sr. returns back to the car, after he finally locates his Son at the school, and the Mother says for him to put out his cigar, because it's bad for children. Cullen is actually smoking a cigarette at the time he enters the automobile and the voice appeared to be dubbed into the scene.

  • Continuity: Crisp's mother's hair during the shootout in the bathroom.

  • Factual errors: John and Phoebe travel on an MD-80 aircraft. There are five seats per row in these planes, but the set was constructed with six.

  • Continuity: On Kimble's second day of teaching, he is wearing a red shirt. When he picks up the little boy who is eating the lunches, he is wearing the outfit that he wore on the first day. After that, he is wearing the red shirt again.

  • Continuity: At the end of the movie, Kimble tenderly walks with a cane into the classroom. When Rachael comes in, the cane disappears and he whisks her up and spins her around as if he has no injury.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in Mrs. Sullivan's car door.

  • Continuity: When Kimble is grilling Crisp after Crisp's arrest, Kimble pushes him onto a table and a paper cup gets knocked over. When we see Crisp from the front, the coffee cup is upright.

  • Factual errors: During evacuations and evacuation drills, teachers take their gradebooks/class lists so attendance can be taken. This is standard procedure, but the teachers in the movie were coming out empty-handed.

  • Continuity: When the firemen start escorting the students across the road after the fire, the fire chief's Caprice has its trunk open. In the next shot, when Phoebe runs to the entrance, the trunk is closed.

  • Continuity: On the first day at school, when Kimble asks for help with the bathroom issue, a little boy sits down to start on the lunch boxes when the little girl is in the hall holding herself. In the next shot, the boy is gone.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: The ferret makes a high-pitched squeaking noise repeatedly. Though ferrets can make a wide range of noises, this is a noise that real ferrets do not make, though it is a common noise for "Hollywood ferrets" to do so.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Crisp Sr. kidnapped Dominic and says that he is a fireman, the shadow from a panning camera is visible.

  • Crew or equipment visible: As the door is opened by Miss Schlowski for Kimble to be introduced to the children, a crew member's hand is clearly seen holding the door open. The door also stays open despite obviously having a closing mechanism.

  • Continuity: When Pheobe is talking to John in the gym (while practicing the play for the fair) in one shot Pheobe has nothing in her hair, next shot she has a hair clip by her right ear, and next shot its gone again

  • Continuity: When Dominic is climbing the tower to place his lasers he is facing the tower. When the bird startles him he is still facing the tower. However, when he begins to fall he is facing out.

  • Continuity: As soon as Phoebe is hit by the car, she drops her purse. But when she lands, she is holding her purse again, like it had never dropped.

  • Boom mic visible: When Crisp and his mother arrive in Portland, you can see the microphone appear a couple of times in the windshield of their car.

  • Continuity: After Kimble's Kindergarten class finishes the Gettysburg Address, Aaron starts dancing. In the next shot when the principal starts talking, he is standing still.

  • Continuity: When Kimble tells all of the Kindergarteners to find a toy and bring it to the carpet, one boy gets his and sits on the carpet. In the next shot, we see him at the toy box getting a toy and sitting on the carpet again.

  • Continuity: When Kimble goes to crash Cindy's party he is holding a gun. In the next shot when he is walking up the stairs, the gun is gone. He then takes it out again to shoot in the party.

  • Continuity: After the class practices their Gettysburg Address recital in the gymnasium, Kimble is walking them back into the classroom as Zach is being rushed into school by his mother. She apologizes for him being late, claiming the car wouldn't start. But Zach could clearly be seen standing with his classmates during the practice recital earlier in the gym.

  • Continuity: During the scene where Kimble introduces Phoebe, where she will talk about strangers, as he is talking the camera changes to the children. However in this shot you can see Kimble sitting on the piano bench, then it changes camera again to show him standing in front of them talking.

  • Errors in geography: When the two main characters drive to the coast (heading west), they pass a wooden sign that states "Sunset Highway". However, that sign is only visible to traffic that is coming east - away from the coast.

  • Factual errors: In the German dub, the kids start the Gettysburg address with: "Four hundred and seven years ago..."

  • Continuity: While Kimble is dreaming that Crisp is outside the window you see a milk carton with a straw in it. In the next scene he has a milk 'tache, which wouldn't be there if he was drinking from a straw.

  • Revealing mistakes: At the end of the movie when Joyce hits Crisp's mother with a baseball bat, the baseball bat is a obviously made out of rubber, because in one of the hits the bat bends.
