You can see the birth of the feelings of being italian, in an historical period when Italy as a nation did doesn't exist. Italy was divided in many countries, and the general Giuseppe Garibaldi was trying to unify Italy fighting against the French and the Austrians. You will appreciate the beautiful Rome of the ancient palaces, and the italian landscape. A good director for a movie that should be more known.
