Andy Garcia Reacts to Fidel Castro’s Death: I Feel ‘Deep Sorrow’ for All Cuban People ‘That Have Suffered’

26 November 2016 2:41 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In the wake of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s death, Andy Garcia expressed his “deep sorrow” for the Cuban people who have lived under Castro’s rule, in a statement shared with Variety on Saturday.

Garcia, the actor and director known for such films as “The Godfather: Part III” and “The Untouchables,” was born in Havana, Cuba.

“It is necessary for me to express the deep sorrow that I feel for all the Cuban people both inside and outside of Cuba that have suffered the atrocities and repression caused by Fidel Castro and his totalitarian regime,” Garcia wrote. “The promises of his so-called revolution of pluralism and democracy, were and continue to be a false promise and a betrayal of all basic human rights.”

Paul Feig would be “surprised” if Ghostbusters gets a sequel

23 November 2016 1:23 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With the film now out on Blu-ray and DVD, Paul Feig has been talking about his Ghostbusters remake and his thoughts on the project overall. It had a lot of detractors upon its announcement and the mediocre release and box office figures did little to help its cause, but despite the post-credits tease of a sequel it’s likely we won’t see this batch of Ghostbusters bustin’ again any time soon.

“If the studio was knocking on the door to do another one, I’d have to think about it,” the director told Den of Geek. “We had so much fun, and I’d love to work with that team again. But I would be very surprised.”

It’s unsurprising that Sony aren’t knocking on the door for another movie. The film was denied a release in the now lucrative Chinese market (a market which single-handily saved Warcraft »

Paul Feig still hoping to make a Ghostbusters sequel

1 November 2016 7:59 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A few weeks ago Paul Feig suggested that he doesn’t believe there’s been any talk within Sony about a sequel to his Ghostbusters reboot, but speaking to The Daily Beast, the director has revealed that he’s keen to get the cast back together for a follow-up, as well as discussing the positive reception to the movie following its home-entertainment release in October.

“That’s up to the studio because they have to pay for it,” said Feig when asked about the chances of Ghostbusters 2. “Nobody’s called me. But I love those characters and I know they are now heroes and mean a lot to a lot of people, so in a perfect world it would be great if we could see them bust more ghosts, kick more ass, and be awesome again.”

Paul Feig doesn’t think a Ghostbusters sequel is being discussed by Sony

14 October 2016 3:11 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It had been reported back in August that Sony weren’t looking to push forward with a sequel to Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, instead putting focus on a new animated movie and the cartoon series Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, which will debut in 2018. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feig has admitted that he’s not heard anything from the studio about a potential sequel.

“Nothing that I am aware of,” he said. “You know, I think everybody is going to wait and see how the DVD sells and how our digital sales are. It’s expensive to make these movies and the people who paid for it, the studio, they’ve got to be the ones who want to make it and so far, no word. But I’m very proud of this film and if this is the only one I get to do and the only one with this team, »

Joe Carnahan Says ‘Bad Boys For Life’ Will Be “The Strongest Of The Trilogy Thus Far”

23 August 2016 9:59 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Generally speaking, sequels tend to offer diminishing returns, though there are the very few and far between franchises that have gotten even better by the third film: For every “Toy Story 3,” there are a handful of “The Godfather Part III“-style disappointments. However, director Joe Carnahan points to that Pixar movie as an example of what he’s […]

‘When Words Fail in Movies’ Video Examines the Power of Cinematic Silence — Watch

12 August 2016 10:56 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

They say actions speak louder than words, and in a film, silence can change the whole meaning of a scene, a feeling and the tone. A brand new video essay from Fandor Keyframe titled “When Words Fail in Movies” takes a look at the quiet moments in features and asks, “What does silence say?”

Composed of fifteen scenes featuring classics such as “The Matrix,” “The Godfather: Part III,” “Lost in Translation” and “La Dolce Vita,” the video starts off stating that sometimes we can’t hear the characters, but we can see them whisper, talk, scream and express many other emotions in silence. Whether it be someone showing pain with a silent scream, annoyance with a glance, loneliness with a hug or betrayal with a look, a moment without words (or audio drowning out the scene) can mean so much.

Ghostbusters reboot crosses $150 million worldwide

1 August 2016 4:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s still splitting opinions three weeks after its release, but Ghostbusters is still pulling in the cash.

Facing stiff competition from Star Trek Beyond in its second week, The Secret Life of Pets still pulling in obscene numbers and newcomers Jason Bourne and Bad Moms, Ghostbusters dropped a further 54% to earn $9.8 million domestically. This brings its domestic haul to $106 million, which is more than some experts figured.

The film is also open in most of its major territories now, which has added another $52 million, giving it a worldwide total of $158 million. With a production budget of $144 million and a rumoured marketing budget of $100 million, this is quite the blow of Sony and a lack of Chinese release will see Ghostbusters struggle to turn a profit.

Director Paul Feig has said in interviews that Sony expected no less than $500 million worldwide.

Sony executive has “no doubt” that we’ll see a Ghostbusters sequel

19 July 2016 4:18 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Well, it wasn’t quite the unmitigated disaster many were predicting, with Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot opening to a decent enough $46 million in its domestic opening weekend (albeit in second place behind The Secret Life of Pets). International takings from a few major markets including the UK and Australia weren’t too strong though, adding just $18.1 million for a worldwide debut of $64.1 million.

Given its net production budget of $144 million, and marketing costs, THR estimates that the film will need to earn $375 – $400 million to break even – something that looks highly unlikely at this point, particularly with China refusing it a release and Star Trek Beyond and Ice Age: Collision Course set to cut into its audience.

Still, according to Sony’s Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution, the studio is very happy with the result, and he has no doubt we’ll see the gang back together for a sequel, »

Ghostbusters will receive an extended cut on Blu-ray

12 July 2016 8:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

From the moment it was first announced, Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot has come under fire from many fans of the original movies, and a rather disastrous marketing campaign didn’t do much to calm fears. However, the film has earned some decent reviews from critics (although not so from Flickering Myth’s Oliver Davis), and now Paul Feig has revealed that fans of the movie will have an extended cut to look forward to on the film’s home entertainment release.

“The editor’s first cut was 4 hours and 15 minutes, and I trimmed that down to a slim 3 and a half hours,” states Feig in an interview with Collider. “We generate a lot of stuff and I always wanna have all the underpinnings of a big, emotional story, and because of that it just added a lot of extra scenes that as you’re going through, you know you have »

Warning: Spoilers For The Post Credits Scene Of The Ghostbusters Reboot Follow.

Here’S A Photo Of The Ghostbusters While You Decide Whether To Continue:

After Ghostbusters’ final credits have rolled, a one-shot scene set in the team’s lab begins to play out. In the foreground, Abby (Melissa McCarthy) is making notes while Patty (Leslie Jones) listens intently to a paranormal event’s tape recording through headphones.

Behind them, Erin (Kristen Wiig) sets off Jill’s (Kate McKinnon) latest creation: a device that ferociously snaps shut. “I call it the nutcracker,” Jill explains. “Oh, because it cracks ghosts?” Erin asks. “No,” Jill replies. “It’s a nutcracker.”

“Guys?” Patty interrupts in the foreground. She’s just heard something on the tapes she’s spooling through. “Who’s Zuul?” she asks, and the scene cuts to black.
