‘Somebody Needs to Put This Whole Movie in the Corner’: Twitter Has a Lot to Say About ABC’s Dirty Dancing Remake

24 May 2017 7:35 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

The small-screen reimagining of Dirty Dancing aired Wednesday evening — and Twitter users candidly shared their opinions about the musical production.

Thirty years after the 1987 film favorite released, ABC gave it new life with its three-hour TV special, starring Abigail Breslin (Baby Houseman), Colt Prattes (Johnny Castle), Sarah Hyland (Lisa Houseman), Debra Messing (Marjorie Houseman), Nicole Scherzinger (Penny Rivera), Katey Sagal (Vivian Pressman) and Bruce Greenwood (Dr. Jake Houseman).

“This isn’t a replica of the original. This takes some liberties. It has the DNA of the original, but you are going to find out what happened to Baby and Johnny after that summer ended. »

Newswire: Jeffrey Tambor would like to remind you that he’s not “the guy from Ghost”

17 May 2017 5:04 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Jeffrey Tambor is a fantastically prolific actor, appearing in everything from Hill Street Blues to Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil, with a ton of rightly celebrated comedic and dramatic performances in between. One cinematic milestone he was not in, however, was Ghost, as he was forced to remind Ryan Seacrest this week during an appearance on Live With Kelly And Ryan.

Now, given the fact that Tambor mentions that people frequently confuse him with the late Vincent Schiavelli—who played the terrifying Subway Ghost in the aforementioned Patrick Swayze flick—in his new book, and the fact that Seacrest seemed to have a question about the confusion prepped and on-hand, it seems pretty likely that the host’s “flub” was less than genuine. That being said, Tambor’s reaction seems perfectly real, quickly switching into a smirking, pitying faux-anger at Seacrest that’s a lot of fun to behold »

Ryan Seacrest Confuses Jeffrey Tambor for Dead Actor in ‘Ghost’

17 May 2017 4:02 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Ryan Seacrest had an awkward moment with actor Jeffrey Tambor on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” Wednesday when he mistook Tambor for the late “Ghost” actor Vincent Schiavelli.

Seacrest referred to Tambor’s roles on “The Larry Sanders Show,” “Arrested Development,” and “Transparent” as “unforgettable” while introducing his guest to the audience, and then went on to recount his fond memory of watching Tambor in “Ghost” as a child. Tambor, however, never appeared in the film.

“We talked about the things you have done and are doing, but to me, you’re the scary guy on the subway in ‘Ghost,'” Seacrest admitted.

Tambor took the error in stride and drew out his reaction for comedic effect.

“Oh, this is horrible,” he said in his signature bass. “You’re gonna be embarrassed. That’s not me. He’s dead.”

Seacrest and co-host Kelly Ripa tried to play along with the mistake, with »

Cannes: Whoopi Goldberg Joins Cast of Comedy Project ‘Shriver’

12 May 2017 2:06 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Whoopi Goldberg is set to join Toni Collette, Giancarlo Esposito and Thomas Haden Church in “Shriver,” a comedy of mistaken identity being introduced to buyers at Cannes by Content Media.

The film, directed by Michael Maren, turns on a loner (Church) who is mistaken for a famous author at a literary conference and who falls for the conference organizer (Collette). The man nearly pulls off the deception before the real author shows up and causes havoc.

The screenplay, by Maren, is adapted from the novel “Shriver” by Chris Belden. “From the very beginning we just loved the clever premise,” Jamie Carmichael, Content’s president of film said.

Josh Kesselman and Alfred Sapse of Thruline are producing.

Goldberg won an Oscar for her role in “Ghost.” Collette and Church were Oscar-nominated for their roles in “The Sixth Sense” and “Sideways,” respectively. Esposito (“Breaking Bad”) stars in “Okja,” one of two Netflix »

1 Scene in Alien: Covenant Will Change How You See Michael Fassbender

9 May 2017 7:00 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

When it comes to a film like Alien: Covenant, you can count on a few things. First, there will be blood, guts, and terrifying alien monsters bursting out of human bodies. (In fact, you can tell that much just from the film's trailers and the other miscellaneous details we've gotten about the film in the past couple of months.) Second, you can guess that that there's going to be a bleak and twisted ending. But the one thing you might not predict is an awkward kiss, let alone an awkward kiss between Michael Fassbender . . . and Michael Fassbender. Yes, you read that right. In Covenant, Fassbender reprises his role as David, the almost-too-human artificially intelligent being we first meet in Prometheus. He also plays Walter, a new and improved version of David with the exact same likeness but an entirely different personality. Interestingly enough, Walter and David are so opposite, they »

A Ghost Story trailer, starring Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara

Is there love after death? Rooney Mara gives up the ghost to Casey Affleck in the trailer for A Ghost Story.

We do what we do to endure. We build our legacy piece by piece and maybe a few people remember you after you’re gone. The new trailer for A Ghost Story shows that sometimes you have to give up the ghost to leave a spiritual trail. Even if your story is written in chalk on a city sidewalk.

A Ghost Story stars Casey Affleck as a man watching over the legacy of his lover Rooney Mara. The romantic take on love after death is reminiscent of the Academy Award-winning supernatural romance Ghost, which starred Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze.

"It's all about time," promises the official synopsis. Will Oldham, Sonia Acevedo, Rob Zabrecky, and Liz Franke star in this story of a 'ghost and the house he haunts'. »

Breaking Down the Truly Gruesome End of The Belko Experiment

18 March 2017 1:45 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Spoilers for The Belko Experiment below. The Belko Experiment first popped up on our radar with its graphic, gory trailer, and we can confirm that the movie is just as brutally horrifying as promised. The long-simmering project written by Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn draws heavy inspiration from director Kinji Fukasaku's Battle Royale, but its lack of profundity or satire (or rather, enough satire) makes it a truly grueling hour and a half to endure. If you'd rather skip 90 minutes of exploding heads and Tony Goldwyn acting less like President Fitzgerald Grant and more like Carl Bruner (classic Ghost reference), we're here to break it down for you. So What's the Deal? Belko Industries employee Mike Milch (John Gallagher Jr., who deserves better than this) arrives at his remote office building in rural Bogotá, Colombia, only to see a new fleet of security guards turning all the »

Just How Many Black Actors Have Won an Oscar? The Number Is Disturbingly Low

26 February 2017 10:15 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Getty / Lee Celano The Oscars have been plagued by obvious race issues since they began in 1929, and things seemingly came to a head with the #OscarsSoWhite discussion a couple of years ago; the overwhelming lack of diversity in nominees in both 2015 and 2016 resulted in Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs taking bigger, more noticeable steps to double the number of diverse members in its voting body by 2020. Nevertheless, a black actor (the incomparable Sidney Poitier) wasn't awarded until 1964, and it was only in 2002 that Halle Berry became the first black woman to win a best actress trophy. At this year's ceremony, Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis won for their supporting roles, adding to a pretty short list. So, just how many black actors have won Oscars over the years? Sixteen. A whopping sixteen distinguished, talented people in 89 years. Scroll through to see who they are and learn about the records they've broken. »

Theatre: Interview with Andy Moss for Ghost – The Musical

Currently touring the UK is the much-loved stage production Ghost – The Musical, which is based on the beloved film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Appearing as Swayze’s character Sam Wheat on the current tour in Andy Moss, and we managed to track him down for a chat about the show.

How exciting is it to be doing Ghost – The Musical?

So exciting! I did a few things just after I left college but nothing of note so this is my first treading of the boards since then. I’m so excited but it’s also a bit nerve-wracking – not the idea of performing in front of an audience but because it’s such an iconic role. Patrick Swayze’s shoes are big shoes to fill, for sure, and my mate Richard Fleeshman did Sam in the original West End production and he was amazing too. So there’s »

There was always a chance for the best picture category at the 2017 Academy Awards to feature solid representation for female producers and, with the nominations official, the numbers are in. Turns out there are five of the nine films in this year’s top category with women behind it — but how does that stand up to the rest of Oscar history?

As mentioned above, there are five out of the total nine films in the best picture category this year that took some girl power to get made. There’s Hell or High Water (Carla Hacken and Julie Yorn), Hidden Figures (Donna Gigliotti and Jenno Topping), Lion (Angie Fielder), Manchester by the Sea (Kimberly Steward and Lauren Beck), and finally Moonlight (Adele Romanski and Dede Gardner). This leaves out Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, and La La Land as »

Julien’s hasn’t posted a list of everything for sale online—and catalogs of the entire collection run $100 a pop—but they did list a few juicy Swayze artifacts that are up on the block. The leather jacket from Dirty Dancing—a.k.a. the perfect outfit for determinedly not putting people in a corner—tops the list, at an estimated $4,000-$6,000 price tag. There’s also his shirt and shoes from the movie Ghost, even though we don’t remember “wearing a shirt” as a thing Swayze did a ...
