Uneven, but entertaining monster romp
12 October 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

They say that history repeats itself, which when you look back it really has. Trends come and go, but some manage to come back in a new way. The Horror genre was hugely successful in the 1980s, but wore itself out by the start of the 90s. Anyone who wanted to make a genre film could, which made going to the video store a lot of fun for us Horror geeks. Some films had some pretty cool artwork, but that didn't guarantee it was worth the price of admission. 'Demon Wind' was one of a few films that had a hologram on the front of the box. It's wicked cool looking and fortunately the movie is pretty decent.

Pros: Actors give their all. Great John Carpenter-esque score. Excellent, not to mention gross effects. Pretty high cheese factor. Moves at a decent clip. Atmospheric. A few memorable freaky sequences.

Cons: Could have benefited from one more trip to the editing room. Short on plot. A lot of bad dialogue. Silly visual effects. Borrows quite a bit from Sam Raimi's first two 'Evil Dead' films.

Final thoughts: This may not be Grade A filmmaking here, but 'Demon Wind' aims to please and does. It may not be as epic as the artwork makes it seem, but it's got plenty of the goods. Perfect viewing for a party with friends. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

My rating: 3/5
