Ray Donovan Season 4 Episodes 11 & 12 Review – ‘Chinese Algebra’ & ‘Rattus Rattus’

26 September 2016 4:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Mark Clark reviews the eleventh and twelfth episodes of Ray Donovan season 4…

Well, that’s it, episodes 11 and 12 are done, season 4 is over, and it’s been a marked upgrade on season 3. With its smarts, viciousness, and dark humour, I may even go as far as putting it at the top of the season pile. As for Ray and the gang, it’s been a case of small victories amidst the sucker punches, flying bullets, old wounds, new nemeses, the occasional body dumping, and Mickey almost turning every disaster into a crisis. Pretty much business as usual then.

‘Chinese Algebra’

After Abby’s recollection of Ray’s never gonna be happier moment in episode 10, and watching the opener of episode 11 as cops swarm all over the dam at Lake Hollywood and the abandoned car, and Marisol’s body, I couldn’t help asking who is responsible for, well, everything. Ever. »

Two Mongolian coaches tore off their clothes in protest after their wrestler lost the bronze medal match at the Rio Olympics. It seemed like Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran had won the men's freestyle 65 kg on Sunday. But the tables turned when the judges awarded a penalty point to Uzbekistan's Ikhtiyor Navruzov after the match ended, Espn reports. Louisa Mellor Aug 4, 2016

Daphne Fowler left Eggheads a few years ago after a long, successful quizzing career. Here’s why she’s an inspiration…

In April 2002, Daphne Fowler and Chris Hughes formed part of a quizzing supergroup assembled by The Guardian. For a bit of fun, the newspaper set some of the country’s top trivia buffs loose on the greater London pub quiz circuit to see what havoc they could wreak.

The “dream team” cut a swathe from Clerkenwell to Hampstead, only coming unstuck on a foray to the King’s Head in Rochester where they lost the win by a single point. Having failed to recognise the theme tune to Beverley Hills 90210, they filed onto the minibus home and drove away from the week’s lone defeat. Somewhere along the A2, a dejected then-out-of-work Hughes told his teammates “I just wish I could turn all this garbage in »

Sydney ’16: A, War review

Sydney ’16: A, War review: A subtle yet powerfully honest tale about the consequences of decisions made in war torn Afghanistan

A must see movie that lingers long after the credits roll. A, War review direct from this year’s Sydney Film Festival.

The immensely talented writer and director Tobias Lindholm – who incidentally wrote the screenplays for the Oscar nominated The Hunt and the soon to be released The Commune with fellow Dane Thomas Vinterberg – reunites for the third time with Pilou Asbæk in his Academy Award nominated film A, War (Krigen).

Set in a remote military outpost in the Helmand province of Afghanistan, Lindholm once again takes a humanist approach to addressing his themes of home as a war-zone, compromising morality, and the consequences difficult decision-making. There is no right or wrong in A, War, no winners. Instead, Lindholm and DoP Magnus Nordenhof Jønck visualise and express a brutal »

Den Of Geek wheels in the big telly for a fond look back at pigeon crime Look And Read schools series, Geordie Racer…

“Spuggy and Plod weren’t runners. They just didn’t see the point”. And thus the hero of the BBC's Geordie Racer and his dog were endeared to a generation of biscuit-eating 1980s schoolchildren.

Part of the long-running Look And Read series of television programming for schools, Geordie Racer was written by The Bill’s Christopher Russell and first aired in 1988. Its ten episodes told a continuing crime story interspersed with factual spots about the North-East and appearances by Wordy, a floating Henry Hoover/Scrabble set who played songs about gerunds. Wordy was just part of Geordie Racer’s educational framing narrative though, Spuggy was its star.
