Cowardly Lion:
Ow!
Dorothy: [pulling thorns out of his backside] Hold still, Lion. You're such a big baby.
Tin Woodman: You just have to grin and bear it.
Cowardly Lion: I'm not a bear, and I don't feel like grinning. Ow!
Scarecrow: Well, you shouldn't have sat down on these, and why do you think they call them prickly pumpkins?
Cowardly Lion: I thought maybe they were just disagreeable.

Like it or not this was how I was introduced to Oz. I was 5 years old. The first episode was two part. I saw the first part and recorded the second part, which I watched over and over again. For about a year I got to know Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Wizard, Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Trukel. Then I saw the Movie when it came on. I already knew all about the characters and some of the story.
When I was 11 I finally decided to read the Oz books. I wish I never did. It felt just like the magic was gone. All the places I saw in the one seasoned 1990 series couldn't possibly fit in. This will always be the REAL Oz.
