My husband, the actor Lyndam Gregory, who has died aged 59 of lung cancer, will be remembered for his roles in soaps, notably as Guppy in EastEnders (1995), Sammy in Coronation Street (1983) and Usha's old flame, Ashok, in The Archers. He also played Simon Field in the comedy Surgical Spirit (1989-92), and Wilson in Chucklevision (2005). He appeared on stage and did voiceovers, narrating a number of novels.

Lyndam was born on a tea estate with a beautiful view of the Himalayas, in Darjeeling, India. His father, Neville, was a tea planter and his Burmese mother, Marina, taught at a local school. The family moved to London in the early 60s in search of opportunities for Lyndam and his brother, Eric, and Neville found work as an account manager.
