American born Rita Rudner managed to bag a six part comedy series for BBC2 in 1990.
I guess the gig was thanks to her British husband, Martin Bergman who was also a co-writer and appeared in the as well.
The show was a mixture of stand up routines and sketches with a special guest each week.
Rudner had a gentle observational style of stand up with a feminist twist. Her series was quiet a coup for the BBC as she was seen as a rising star in the US stand up scene and since then she has become a mainstay in the Las Vegas stand up scene.
This was a gentle comedy series, not laugh out loud and some of the sketches were amusing but it only lasted one series although many years later she did do a Radio 4 sitcom again with her husband.
